Trying to Save Marty’s Voice

For the last eight years I have battled a slow growing cancer in my throat. I never smoked in my entire life but this is where I am now. After numerous surgeries, the final prognosis was a total laryngectomy. Once knowing that my only option was to lose my voice I started becoming depressed and very frustrated. My wife could see that I was struggling with the prognosis. After many hours of research she found a groundbreaking transplant program at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. After doing some more research and speaking with my local doctors, I decided to look at my options at the Mayo Clinic. In August of 2022, Gina and I visited the team at the Mayo Clinic. We spent two weeks speaking to doctors and I received numerous amounts of test and exams which, in the end, concluded that a was a fantastic candidate to have the larynx transplant surgery. This transplant has only been done successfully 4 times in the world. I am excited to be number 5!

One Year Anniversary Update!Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since we launched this campaign to support Marty's groundbreaking laryngeal transplant journey. Your kindness, generosity, and unwavering encouragement have carried us through every challenge, and we are beyond grateful for each and every one of you. This past year has been filled with triumphs and setbacks, hope and hardship. Marty’s laying transplant has given him a second chance at a voice, a gift we will never take for granted. However, the road to recovery is far from over. This week, we were hit with an unexpected and difficult hurdle Marty’s body has shown signs of organ rejection. Because of this, we are currently staying at Mayo Clinic while he undergoes an aggressive round of infusions to fight the rejection and protect his new larynx. While this news has been overwhelming, we are choosing to stay hopeful. The Mayo team has been incredible, and Marty continues to fight with the same strength and determination that have defined his journey from the start. We know this is just another challenge to overcome, and we remain optimistic that these treatments will work.As we mark this one-year milestone, we ask for your continued support whether through donations, sharing our story, or simply keeping us in your thoughts. The financial burden of these unexpected medical interventions, extended stays, and ongoing care is significant, and we couldn’t do this without the community that has rallied around us.From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey. Your support gives us hope and strength, and we will keep pushing forward with gratitude and determination. With love and appreciation,Gina & Marty

Yesterday, we received the call we had been waiting for! Marty went in for his long-awaited laryngeal transplant. It has already been over 16 hours since the procedure began, and at around 5:30 am this morning, they successfully put in the new larynx. They are currently attaching all of the nerves which is a very intricate process . Please keep Marty in your prayers.
