Dear Friends,
My name is David Land and I need your help. In May of 2012 I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), this disease is a rare form of blood cancer especially in younger patients such as me. I have received three rounds of chemotherapy and the doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center have determined that I am in need of a stem cell transplant. A nine out of ten match has been found for me and my transplant day is September 28th.
The costs of the transplant are extremely expensive, even though it is covered by insurance, the cost of relocating, certain medications, travel to and from the facility, and lodging are not covered. I am unable to work due to my illness, but hope to return to work as soon as possible after my transplant. Since I cannot work it is nearly impossible for me to pay for all of my co-pays, medications, and costs of relocating closer to my transplant facility. Only through fundraising will I be able to pay for the costs of transplant.
****Update: I had my transplant on September 29th. Everything went smoothly. I had horrible sores in my mouth and throat for a couple of weeks and could not eat. Once I was able to swallow pills and be off the pain pump I was released to the housing. I still have to return to the clinic for 2-5 hours a day for magnesium and fluids. This is the part of recovery that insurance does not cover. Any donation is appreciated.
To help pay for the expenses, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been helping the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southeast Bone Marrow Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant expenses only. Please consider making a contribution.Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
With gratitude,

David Land
