Charlie Miller served our country in Vietnam from 1972-1974, and like many veterans of that war (reported 1 out of every 10), he returned home with Hepatitis C. Although his hepatitis was cured in recent years, the lasting effects have left him with cirrhosis, leading to liver cancer. Charlie now only has 10% of his liver function left and needs a liver transplant in order to survive.
Charlie is one of those guys who gets along with anyone he meets and will help you anything you need. His charming southern accent, killer golf game, years of carpentry and building experience, hard work ethic, life adventures, and laid-back sense of humor have earned him a unique warm place in his family’s, friend’s, and community’s hearts. They simply don’t make them like him anymore. Charlie is the constant of his tight-knit family. He is a best friend, confidant, and soulmate to his wife of almost 40 years, Shelly, and the ever-present dad and loving supporter of his son David and his wife, Ciera. It’s not hard to see why he is beloved by many.
Charlie and Shelly recently retired to live out a lifelong dream at their cabin in Garden Valley. Charlie’s diagnosis came out of nowhere in the Fall of 2022, and they are now faced with a mountain of expenses coming their way. We’re asking family and friends to join us in fundraising for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help with these critical expenses Charlie will face in the coming months. While Charlie does have medical insurance, many transplant costs are not covered, including the travel, gas, relocation, and moving expenses for him and Shelly to temporarily move to Utah for a period of what could be more than six months while he awaits his transplant, has a successful surgery, recovery, and outpatient appointments and physical therapy.
Donations to Help Hope Live will help ease the financial burden of a life-saving liver transplant and allow Charlie and his family to focus on his recovery.
Family and friends of Charlie Miller are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Charlie has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Thank you for your support!
Charlie checked out of the hospital on Thursday, August 31st, after a 26-day hospital stay. He's begun the road to recovery at the apartment they rented in Utah. He's making huge strides each day and adjusting to his new requirements each day. Our family is so grateful to be able to embark on these new changes together and will continue to help Charlie get back to himself again. Every day is a gift, and we still cannot believe he has gotten this second chance at life. Charlie is grateful for all those rooting for him and the support he has and continues to receive. Thank you for believing in him as much as we do!
After spending ten days in the trauma ICU and five days on the transplant floor, Charlie has now graduated to the hospital's highly sought-after rehabilitation program. He is making huge strides every day and is eager to do the hard work to get his strength back and be discharged from the hospital. Our family is incredibly grateful for the care Charlie has received from everyone at Intermountain Medical Center, and we feel confident they will be able to get Charlie where he needs to be. We are also incredibly moved by the support of our friends and family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Charlie officially received his new liver on August 6th at about 1:30 am. The transplant was successful, but there were unexpected complications. He has undergone three surgeries in 6 days and has been working so incredibly hard to heal and get better. Charlie is a fighter and continues to make strides in the right direction every single day. He appreciates your love and support so much!
Charlie is on the national list and awaiting a transplant! He and Shelly are moving to Utah in July to be close to the hospital and are optimistic about receiving one soon!

Dearest Charlie & Shelly,
We just love you two and wish this could be 10 times more! Charlie, I remember the first time I met you you said "y'all don't talk much do you?" I have always loved your honesty, big heart and sense of humor - always knew there wasn't much left unsaid!
Shelly, I am here for you (just over the mountain a bit). Our dearest oldest friends... Tim and Charlie... I could hear the stories and never get tired...
When you get this behind you, please invite us up so I can blow my nose a bunch and light some scented candles -
Hugs to both of you,
