Family and friends of Steven Sneed are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation. Steve’s lifelong battle with Hemochromotosis has reached a life-threatening level causing liver failure and liver cancer.

Steve’s survival is dependent upon a liver transplant. We are looking to fundraising efforts with the assistance of Help Hope Live as Steve is a consultant where his income is based on billable hours. Therefore, the loss of income due to the inability to work while undergoing treatments and a transplant, will be devastating. As well, his wife will be his primary caretaker, leading to her absence from work. The out-of-pocket costs that come from cancer treatments, liver transplants, including required housing near the transplant center, have the potential to put our retirement savings at risk or even cause bankruptcy.

Steve was released from the hospital on Sunday, August 6th and has been recovering in our Airbnb here in Salt Lake City this week. His follow up appointments have been going well. There have been a few adjustments to medications, which is to be expected to dial in on the right doses for anti-rejection. He is now eating solid foods in moderation and starting to get some energy back, in small doses, enough for him to get a few short walks in each day along with a few exercises. His team at Intermountain Medical Center are very happy with his progress and so are we!!

Steve went into transplant surgery yesterday, August 1st, at about 3pm and was in recovery in ICU by about 10pm. Surgery went well and surgeon said Steve was stable throughout the entire transplant. We give thanks and praise to God for the donor, the donor's family, surgical team and all who played a part in this life saving surgery. We still have a long road ahead but now that the transplant is behind us, we are extremely hopeful!
