She needed extensive periodontal surgery to replace her broken teeth.
Thanks to your generosity, Erika is well on her way to getting new permanent teeth and a healthy mouth. The $43,000 process is nearing completion.
However, there’s still a $25,000 loan that needs to be paid off. And there are thousands of dollars in medical bills from her many surgeries.
In addition to her periodontal surgery, Erika lives with a left arm that doesn’t work due to failed shoulder surgery. She also has CIDP, an autoimmune disease that attacks the peripheral nervous system causing loss of feeling and strength in the arms and legs.
This past year she had a life-saving ileostomy when her digestive system failed. Every day, she bravely battles PTSD from too many surgeries and ICU stays.
To make matters worse, her husband of twenty years just walked out, leaving the family with no steady income.
That’s why Erika’s parents, Bob and Jayne Wassom, family and friends are raising money with the help of the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.
Erika has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Thank you for your support!
On the eve of her 44th Birthday, April 6, Erika is battling hard to recover from emergency surgery on March 27 to remove scar tissue from her intestines, the result of numerous previous surgeries. She also overcame a potentially fatal case of sepsis caused by an infected intravenous line. She's currently on oxygen to help with surgically caused pleural effusion in her lungs and is being given nutrition through a tube directly into her digestive system. She's a fighter who wants to continue her mission of raising her daughter Ellie.
Thanks to you, Erika is halfway to her new permanent smile! Her broken and infected teeth have all been removed and she has her new temporary dentures in place. In July she'll get her new permanent implants and then her permanent teeth a few months later. This final procedure will cost $25,000 and that's why we're continuing to fundraise on her behalf. Please consider an additional donation to help with this final important step.
To all of our friends and family who have donated to Erika through GoFundMe, we are transitioning to the second phase of our campaign with the assistance of Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that focuses on catastrophic medical illness. We feel that their expertise will help us reach our goals, while ensuring fiscal accountability and tax deductibility for donors. We are forever grateful for your compassion and support.
