Help Abby with her surgery!

Abby is a 24-year-old, first-generation Haitian-American who graduated from Howard University. She has worked her entire life towards her goal of becoming a physician and will, prayerfully, be entering medical school this summer. Abby has suffered from the effects of chronic illness for most of her life. Unfortunately, due to being a Black woman in America, it wasn’t until she was 20 years old that she received her first major diagnosis. She has experienced countless episodes of medical neglect and gaslighting. Recently, she sat in the ER waiting room with chest pain for 5 hours, before even having blood drawn, despite having a known heart condition. In the last two years, Abby has received new 7 diagnoses, among them: a genetic connective tissue disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), Interstitial cystitis that affects her urinary system, and endometriosis.

Abby is suspected to have a rare type of endometriosis that affects her kidneys. Additionally, having Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome makes any surgery more complicated and risky. Because of this, Abby is in need of a more specialized surgery, involving three different surgeons. Unfortunately, this is not covered by Abby’s insurance, as it is out of state. With financial assistance programs, she is expected to have a patient responsibility of $20,000+.

Abby needs your help to start her healing journey. Abby’s dream is to become a physician and help children suffering with chronic illness. Without this surgery, she will not be able to perform to her highest potential, which is required for the rigors of medical education. With the help of this surgery, she is looking forward to focusing on her lifelong goals and experiencing the joys of being a young woman with big dreams. Please help a young Black woman reach her goals and have the opportunity to use the gifts that God has given her. All donations are greatly appreciated. No gift is too small. If you are not able to donate, please help by sharing with your network.
