Katie Cashin was born on June 25th, 1997. She is the middle child with an older brother and younger sister. When Katie was young, she was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis (TS). Thankfully, it did not affect her much while she was growing up. In 2019 she experienced her first pneumothorax (lung collapse) while attending UGA in Athens, GA. Her next pneumothorax occurred at the end of October 2022. That was when doctors told us that a lung transplant was in her future.
On January 25th, 2023 Katie had her third pneumothorax while at work. When she arrived at Mayo hospital she was told that a lung transplant was needed as soon as possible. Since being in the hospital she has had three additional lung collapses. Katie has shown exceptional patience and bravery while dealing with her ongoing health issues. The support Katie and her family have been given through friends, family, work, church and the Ponte Vedra community has been humbling.
Katie’s family and friends are partnering with the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation. Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. Oh happy day. This mighty girl has been moved from the ICU to floor 3, our last stop until home , God willing ! Strength? She’s got it. Faith? In spades. Support? Humbling. Love? Overwhelming. She cannot wait to get home but knows it’s not time yet. Chip and I cannot even begin to tell all of you what you have meant to us on this journey. Thank you! . And one last special shout out to Katie’s 5th grade students (and parents) who so sweetly sent a care basket to give to the ICU. They earned it and they loved it. Now let’s pray my next post is when Katie comes home!! Love you all!!

This girl is on fire. She actually walked today. It was so wonderful to walk her around the hallways while the nurses and doctors cheered her on - thank you, Mayo!! Proud is an understatement. Her strength, her resilience, her grace makes me cry. This girl is our hero, our love, our miracle. To all her cheerleaders, we love y’all so much! . And one more shout out to her brother and sister who have shown such sibling love. Cashin kids, you rock and daddy and I are blessed! Can’t wait to write about her next big feat. Keep those prayers coming, y’all!! They’re working!!

Our God is an awesome God!! Late Saturday night we got the call that there was a pair of lungs that fit Katie’s criteria. On Sunday it was official. Now before I go any further we want to send out a prayer of peace and thanksgiving to a family who is mourning their loved one today. We thank them for this selfless gift of organ donation for our girl. . Katie’s surgery began at 1:00 am and finished around 9:00 this morning. All signs are pointing to success. She’s got a tough road but as I told her, we can finally see a glimmer of light at the end of this long tunnel. We wish there was a bigger word than thank you! The support and prayers of everyone has not gone unnoticed and we are just in awe of you all!! . I promise to keep y’all updated but we ask for your continued prayers. Thank you, love you and God bless you all!

To all of our dear friends & family: Mayo Clinic received the double lung organ donation late Sunday afternoon, 3/19. Lots of prayers sent to the organ donor who passed away and her entire family in order to make this happen. Katie had transplant surgery at the Mayo Clinic starting around 12 pm (midnight) through 9 am, early Monday, 3/20. The surgery went extremely well and things look very positive. Katie has been resting and healing up over the last 72 hours. The Mayo Surgeon's have been absolutely incredible and the transplant surgery was a huge success! The first three days of healing and recovery have been painful but on schedule with no issues thus far. Katie has been tough as nails through this extremely difficult process. All of our prayers have been answered; God is truly good! Anne, Katie and our entire family thank everyone again for all of the love, support, prayers and donations! Hopefully, (assuming Katie's recovery continues to go well), Katie should be finally coming home over the next 2 to 3 weeks depending on her progress. We will continue to keep everyone updated. Thank You!!

Anne, Katie and our entire Cashin family want to thank you so much for all of the kind thoughts, prayers, words of support, gifts, and all of the donations in behalf of Katie. We are so very proud of this young Lady as Katie has shown incredible strength through this extremely difficult process. It's been 7 weeks now since Katie arrived at the Mayo Clinic. She has good days and bad days...however, Katie continues to be extremely positive with amazing resilience. Anne has been an absolute ROCK. We are so truly blessed. Special thanks to all of the families and friends at Palmer Catholic Academy and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in our residence of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. We also appreciate all of the Prayers sent out since 1/25/23. All of our immediate family members residing in Atlanta have been incredible......They helped get this Fund raising campaign started which is greatly appreciated. Please continue to Pray for Katie as God will wok his magic. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You & God Bless all of you!
