Currently I’m suffering with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) and have been on a breathing machine for 4yrs. This disease (COPD) has eaten away at my lungs to the point that I have to wear oxygen 24 hours a day. Wearing oxygen all day limits my daily quality of life. I cannot walk more than 10 feet without gasping for air and being totally physically depleted.
This extreme loss of air and physical weakness also, happens while wearing
oxygen. When I leave the house for doctors appointments I have a portable oxygen machine. The portable oxygen machine only provides about an hour of oxygen therefore, I’m mostly confined to my home with very little social life if any which leads to lack of socialization, depression, and anxiety.
By the grace of God, I’ve been accepted to the Lung transplant list for a Bilateral Lung Transplant (Double Lung Transplant) in September of 2022.
Currently I’m residing in Upstate, NY near Canada and my care is well over 250 miles downstate in Manhattan, NY at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. That’s where the lung transplant will take place along with all post op- appointments. Once I get the call that my new lungs are available, I will have a four-hour window to get to Manhattan, NY. Driving is almost 6 hours away, therefore driving is not an option. I’m required to fly as soon as I get the call the lungs are available.
All fundraising funds will go to assisting with medicine my insurance will not fully cover, transportation to and from post operation appointments in NYC and, living expenses. I’ll be down for a little more than a year in recovery. The funds will also help with meeting financial responsibility due to the surgery. Physically and daily assistance that I will require in order to heal and, keep my household intact.
Not only do I require everyday living assistance so, does my autistic son that lives with me. I am the primary caretaker for my autistic son, who also requires 24-hour care. Without this surgery my prognosis is very grim. My health continues to decline daily. Not only am I afraid for myself. I’m also afraid for my autistic son if something was to happen to me. My autistic son will not have anyone to care for him. I’m all my son knows.
Thank you in advance for your financial support. Please keep me and my family in your prayers.
Sincerely, Vivian Reid
