Our sister, Lois Brockey who is 57 years old, has suffered from kidney disease for several years. Her kidneys have been functioning around 20% for the last few years and just recently, she started dialysis. Lois needs a kidney transplant. Last summer, our oldest sister Karen got tested to see if she may be a match for Lois, and we found out that she is! Praise God for answered prayers. Finding a donor is always one of the biggest obstacles, so we are so thankful for our sister and that we have overcome that obstacle. Soon we will be able to schedule a transplant and Lois will finally be able to put a large part of this behind her.
Lois is a mother of 3: Katelyn (28), Adam (21), and Jenna (19). In addition, she has 4 amazing grandkids that think she is the best Grandma in the world. She is also a sister to 6 siblings who love her dearly. Lois has played a vital role in her community as a nurse for over 35 years. She has worked in the NICU, and has worked with children with disabilities and life threatening injuries her entire nursing career. Lois also sings regularly on a worship team with Living Springs Covenant Church. She loves God and shares her gifts with others.
The expenses related to a transplant are extremely high, and very overwhelming. Even with insurance, there are many expenses that must be covered out of pocket. Some of these expenses are premiums, co-pays, deductibles and anti-rejection medications she will need to take for the rest of her life. In addition, Lois has been unable to work full time and she will be unable to work after a transplant for some time. This is where we need your support.
To help with the financial burden of Lois’ expenses, a fundraising campaign in her honor has been established with Help Hope Live, which is a trusted nonprofit organization that has been providing community-based fundraising guidance to patients and their families for more than 30 years. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held and administered by Help Hope Live. To make a donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Donate Now button.
On behalf of Lois and our family, thank you for kindness, generosity, support and most importantly, your prayers. Please keep an eye on Lois’ campaign page at Help Hope Live as we will be posting updates regularly.
The kidney transplant surgery happened as planned on Monday, August 7th, at Sanford in Sioux Falls, SD. Surgery was a success!! And now on to recovery for both Lois and Karen, and adjustment to new routines esp for Lois. Karen was discharged from the hospital on the 9th and, all going as planned. Lois will go home on the 11th. Sisters. Melinda and Beth, and daughter Katelyn will be Lois'caregivers while she adjusts to her new routine and to assist with care and with many appointments. Thanks so much to all for your prayers, love, support, and financial help! It is so very appreciated. Lois' out of pocket expenses will increase significantly with her new routine; any amount you are still able to contribute will help with that piece of her recovery.
Karen
Only 3 days till transplant. Karen and I were told we are a perfect match, which is pretty rare. There have been many tests in the last few days that could have been abnormal and Karen was exposed to COVID at work prior to her flight to Sioux Falls, but we are on track for the transplant to take place next Monday, August 7th. God truly answers prayers. Thanks to all of the prayer warriors and support from friends and family. It has made a huge impact on both Karen and I. We know that God is truly in control and everything happens for a reason. We have faith that God will take care of us during surgery and recovery. Love you all!
Gratitude and blessings,
Lois and Karen
TWO WEEKS AND COUNTING…..
Lois’s kidney transplant is scheduled at Sanford 8/7 at 1030am. Karen, Lois’s sister and kidney donor,,to fly into Sioux Falls 8/1 for some additional testing prior to surgery. I thank God for each one of you who prayed, gave a financial donation or word of encouragement during this time. Karen and I continue to ask for your prayers for normal testing results prior to surgery, a safe and successful kidney transplant, and an uneventful and speedy recovery, if it’s God’s plan. So thank you for all the support we’ve received! It has been a blessing!
