Hello everyone, as most of you know, I was diagnosed with renal failure in January 2012, of my junior year in high school and in December 2018 my kidneys finally decided to fail and I ended up on hemodialysis. For the past five years, I have consistently been attending treatments, going to doctors appointments and trying to to become a transplant candidate so that I can finally live a normal healthy life. With lots of trials and tribulations I have been turned away multiple times, due to complications with other health issues.
Finally, I have been able to keep my underlying health issues at bay and am now cleared to be transplanted.
By the grace of God, I did not have to search too far because I had a sibling who was willing to be tested to determine if he was a match; that sibling being my brother, Marlin Johnson. As of last week, he has officially been determined to be a match as my donor and we are currently in the works of coming up with a surgery date.
So, I’m coming to you all asking for help to support us during our recovery period, as we will both be out of work for about 2/3 months. No donation is too small and anything is appreciated. I’d also like to thank you all for all your loving and kind words as I’ve been working to accomplish this goal
Family and friends of Nia Johnson are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Nia has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Thank you for your support!
On May 4th, 2024, I completed my very last dialysis treatment and on May 6th my brother blessed me by becoming my donor. I am so grateful and full of love and appreciation for the sacrifices made by my loved ones to ensure that I live a longer healthier life.
Now, I can finally start envisioning and putting into action my future and all of the things I’ve dreamt of doing. I am no longer bound by a dialysis machine, I can now live a life free from constant medical interventions and limitations. I am filled with gratitude towards my medical team, my brother, and all the loved ones who came and supported me through this journey. I know that recovery won't be easy, but I am determined to make the most of this second chance at life. I am filled with hope, optimism, and a renewed sense of purpose. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter, and I am ready to embrace it with open arms.
