Starting at 3 years of age I attended a school call Doty House in Middletown, Ohio. When I was 15 I begin being tutored at home so I could complete high school. In my younger years I was able to walk with braces and crutches I was fairly mobile and independent.
My family supported me in reasonable decisions. I obtained my driver’s license in 1976, attended college in 1979 and had my first job by 1981. I married my wife in 1987 we have two children (adults) and three grandchildren.
What I am trying to say is that until recently I have been able to travel alone by putting my wheelchair in the back seat of our car. When I became unable to do that my wife could help me but that meant a loss of independence. Now my wife has mobility problems so if we want to go somewhere we have to make arrangements to have help.
I have been on SSDI for twenty years and have not saved money to be able to afford a wheelchair accessible vehicle that we could use without help.
We want to be able to take our grandchildren places and enjoy being able to just get out again.
I know these are difficult financial times for many. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
We are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with Catastrophic Illness.
I chose to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button. This week my wife was in the hospital. My son took me everyday to see her. If I had a van I could have went alone.
