Lila was born in 2014, shortly after birth she started having seizures, upon further medical investigation it was revealed that Lila suffered from a bilateral stroke in utero due to unknown causes. Lila is wheelchair bound, nonverbal and uses a gtube for medication administration and nutrition. Lila as a result has diagnoses that include hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, developmental delay, seizure disorder, cortical visual impairment amongst other diagnoses. Lila see’s a variety of specialists multiple times per year to manage her disability.
Despite Lila’s struggles she is a thriving, social, resilient young girl! Her smile and laugh is truly contagious and she brightens the lives of everyone who surrounds her! Lila would prefer to spend her time listening to music such as Miranda Lambert, Morgan Wallen, and Taylor Swift. She loves playing in the water and beach days are her favorite!
Raising money for a wheelchair van is imperative, we currently own a 2018 Kia Sedona that unfortunately does not meet the requirements for the conversion, in order to trade in the vehicle we would have to take a loss on the loan as we purchased the vehicle recently in 2022 unknowingly to the requirements of the conversion. We have attempted to apply for a variety of grants to no avail, the need for an adapted vehicle is urgent due to the hazard it is to her and us to transfer her currently. We strive for the ultimate goal of purchasing an already adapted vehicle that would last us until Lila is 21 which is when the state offers to pay for a vehicle. Purchasing a used wheelchair van with high mileage unfortunately, would not be in our best interest as longevity of the vehicle is imperative!

2023 raised $15,693 towards our fundraiser! Thank you all who have supported us thus far, we are incredibly thankful.
We have been awaiting approval from the state for the 'conversion' part, it is estimated to take 3-6months, however I did get word that the state is having an issue with one of their systems and it may take longer for approval. Once approved we will be able to run the numbers and see if we can get into a van ($42k out of pocket cost). We are going to continue fundraising until we receive approval from the state.
Cross our fingers that 2024 will be the year of the wheelchair van

Best wishes for a van for Lila!
Just a thought….EVERYONE that offered to donate reward $$ this summer to a local company hit by an arsonist, should make that donation toward this van for Lila.

Lila and family, thank you for being a light in our community! Our daughter loves seeing Lila in school at HMS. I grew up with a special needs brother very much like Lila, and getting our family wheelchair conversion van was really a hard process, but when we did, it gave us "wings"! Can't wait to see you all enjoying your wheels when you get them.
