I have been a Christian for most of my adult life (41 years). Throughout that time I have found these things to be true: nothing can separate us from God’s love, His faithfulness is unending, and He will complete the work He started in each one of us. I can say that I truly believe these things and have tried to proclaim them in my life.
I have found myself in Christian leadership from my earliest days as a believer: from leadership in a house church to working as a Deacon, an Elder, and Bible teacher. I have found most gratifying working as a Pastor both as an Associate Pastor and Head Pastor. No longer in the official pastorate I still try to help as an Elder of Pauma Valley Community Church. I also lead the Men’s group at the church as well as help in a ministry to Native Americans named Tribes4Christ.
Little did I know that the winter of 2002 would forever change my life. After a bout of double pneumonia and a trip to the ER it was discovered that I had diabetes. I had to be put into an induced coma for four days. The doctor had said there were multiple issues as a result of double pneumonia and diabetes one of which was kidney failure. I continued taking diabetes medication for the next eight years.
Finally in June of 2010 I started feeling worse than normal. I started noticing a foggy mind, vision problems and weakness. After a phone conversation with a friend from Atlanta he realized I was not making sense and sent an EMT. They took me to the hospital where they discovered I was in advance kidney failure and in need of dialysis. For the last 2 ½ years I have doing dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours each.
I am now blessed and honored to say that a dear friend has offered to donate one of his kidneys to me! To have a live donor is very rare! Some people wait 5 – 10 years for a deceased donor and some may never get one at all! In order to take advantage of this unbelievable blessing, I need to show the hospital that I have everything lined up financially. I will incur many medical expenses that insurance will not cover.
To help with these uninsured costs, a fundraising campaign in my honor has been established with HelpHOPELive, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for 30 years. All contributions are tax-deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Southwest Kidney Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. I would love to be able to take advantage of this unbelievable blessing. The Lord has clearly intervened throughout this process whether through pneumonia, or a call from a friend, and now through a live kidney donor! Please let me know if you are able to help by making a contribution.
