Help CJ Gain Independence Back!

Aug. 16, 2023 Our lives as we knew them changed forever! Cj a 31 year old, father of three and an amazing fiancé lost his ability to move 75 to 80 percent of his body. After many visits and some odd doctors later Cj was flown to the university hospital without any use of his body from nipple line down and later lost use in his hands also. Cj went into emergency surgery and we were informed that he had mssa osteomyelitis. After surgery no movement was improved and we are unsure at this time if he will gain it back. He has now been diagnosed with a level C6 complete spinal cord injury. We are 3 hospitals and nearly a month post surgery and unfortunately are finding the financial burden is much more than we can bear at the moment.
The last thing we ever wanted to do was ask for help but at this point it’s the only option we have. We are now facing so many uncovered injury related costs. Any and all funds will be going to support our medical expenses and related needs. We hope that using these funds for medical expenses will allow us to save so that we’ll be able to start a small business to give Cj any and all independence back that we can. And as time goes on we will continue to run updates as we are able. If you are unable to donate please send a prayer up! Each and every cent and prayer matters!!!

Whew, has time flown by! It seems we've been so busy that we barely noticed the last two months slip away. Despite our relative quietness, a significant amount of activity has been taking place in the background! With the Lord's help, we've officially taken on three plans of action, and it's inspiring to see friends achieving things they once thought impossible! CJ is now in therapy and is making incredible strides! He can write and hold a pen again, and he’s doing exceptionally well with his transfers. We even enjoyed our first little date since his injury! A huge thank you to Anthony BeastMode and the #RebelFamily for making that experience possible. If you missed it, you missed out on something special—pictures coming soon! We're also learning and growing our business on top of that! We’ve purchased a new vehicle that still needs some modifications to better accommodate CJ, and I plan to create a wish list for that soon. Now, allow me to share our next big event: May 30th, HOPE IN ACTION! We are encouraging everyone to consider donating, even just a dollar. Last year’s event helped us purchase our 1994 Dodge Ram. This year, we're hoping to raise enough to buy a lift for CJ's chair that attaches to the hitch. CJ would be thrilled if we could find someone to help install a revolving chair or Lambo door on the passenger side to assist him in getting in and out of the vehicle. Please consider contributing to CJ's independence with a tax-deductible donation today at the Great Lakes Catastrophic Injury Fund in honor of Casey Giles. I hope you're all doing well! Best, Mariah Prows CC: Casey Giles

Just wanted to give a shout out to our 3 donors! We absolutely could not do it without the help we have been given. While we are in the swamp with buying a vehicle, it brightens our days and smiles just knowing someone out there is thinking of us! Thank you to each and everyone of you! Josh, Momo and anon! We can not thank you enough! Update: Fundraising has not been as expected but we won't stop till we get CJ what he needs to be able to put forth the effort to give back to our communities. First we need to purchase a vehicle to be customized for him, then its to find a accessible home. Cj is on SSI and does not make such, caregiver has been unpaid for a year and a half and is just now in the end process of getting paid. Needless to say life is hard out of a wheelchair but in a wheelchair if you do not have money when you get hurt good luck receiving help without putting fourth ten plus thousand dollars! Christmas is coming and we want more than anything to see our families! Thank you for the shares, contributions and prayers! Continued Care Update: CJ has been home for quite sometime now and going to doctors appointments but we are still having issues with transportation which makes anything hard for him. He currently has a procedure scheduled for 12/13/24 for a EGD so hopefully that will bring some answers. Also still waiting OT/PT referral to go through to his choice facility then we will be in much better shape!
