Ate Justine does not lose hope, everyday she is fighting and doing her best to take all the needed test for her transplant evaluation. She is the kind of person that thinks of others before herself and has a generous spirit. She became our second Mom (Oldest of 5 siblings) when our Mom left the Philippines to support us financially but still it was insufficient to have her liver transplant evaluation started.
We are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
We chose to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Thank you for your support!
Ate Justine was discharged at CPMC on the 24th of May.
Kidney pre-transplant evaluation done on Stanford Hospital on the 10th of June.
Ever since Ate Justine was discharged to CPMC, she was living on post-transplant apartment/housing at Residence Inn Menlo Park with Mom as her caregiver.
Ate Justine is not much on a fall risk anymore as per the Physical Therapy team!
Ate Justine is now staying at California Pacific Medical Center for Physical Therapy and will be back at Stanford soon once she is ready for Kidney Transplant.
We are so happy to see her doing well!! Thank you Lord!
Liver team came by, there will be an upcoming procedure, stent for her liver do improve flow circulation
also kidney transplant in the talks, will probably do it once Ate Justine is strong enough and recovered from the liver transplant
Shaved Ate Justine’s hair the other day, we noticed that she is having hair loss and we decided to shave it.
Ate Justine is still recovering here at Stanford Hospital. Doing dialysis every other day during weekdays and averaging 2L pf liquid being removed. She said that doing dialysis makes her tired.
She is now taking steroids for her low blood platelets. She is so happy that she is able to eat food now and had been requesting to bring filipino food/cuisine for her. Still need to watch out for her sugar intake.
Also, we had the chance to mourn for our Grandmother who recently died in the Philippines. Rest in Peace Nanay
Ate Justine is still at the hospital. On going Post transplant recovery. Tuberculosis is still being treated. Also working with speech therapy with speaking valve. Still on feeding tube ever since post transplant but working on swallowing water and eating ice cubes. Doing dialysis helps on removing excess fluids on her body, excess fluids being removed averaging 2.5L
So far, the new liver is doing good! Ate Justine was removed from ICU and now she is in a regular room! Continuous dialysis is now stopped and she is on normal dialysis. The Speech therapist comes by every now and then to have her practice speaking with the valve on her throat. Also Occupational Therapists come to visit her to have her seat on a chair.
Me and Mom had a meeting with the pharmacist and dietician last week regarding the medication for Ate Justine and the meals to avoid when she gets discharge from the Hospital.
There is still no discharge plan as of the moment due to Medical team is trying to get off all the tubes that’s inserted to her to help her recovery.
Ate Justine had a slight fever. The medical team examined her chest and belly, and found out that her right lungs collapsed due to mucus build up. This made Ate Justine harder to breath. The medical team was able to remove the mucus and they re-intubated her to help with the breathing. Team is still trying to figure out what or where could the mucus is coming from. Ate Justine is now set up for dialysis which is getting done every 3 days.
On October 29, 2023, Ate Justine had a liver donor!!! Then the next day, Liver transplant was executed and it was a success!!!! After transplant, she was transferred back to the ICU room to be monitored. She still has pending surgery to connect her bile duct and close her incision. The good thing was she was able to open her eyes as the Medical team was calling her.
On November 1, 2023, bile duct surgery was successfully performed!!! Continuous dialysis is now fully stopped!!!!!
On November 3, 2023, procedure to remove wound vac / change dressing, and complete closure of surgical incision was finished! Ate Justine is awake and able to talk!
As of now her liver function is great/normal and she works with the Occupational Therapy team to speak and sit up in the chair.
Ate Justine is back and active on the waiting list for Liver Transplant!!!
Update:
Medical team came by and told us that next week Justine will be back on the liver donor list.
Justine is coherent and aware of her situations. She still works with PT every other day and for now Justine will be sitting on recliner to help her mobility.
Please continue to pray for her. And ofcourse Almighty God is really great!
Infectious Disease Team checked in this morning
They explained to us that although they are always checking for TB, it was hard for them to know that there was TB on her belly as well ~kahit na yung mga sample na kinukuha kay ate sa belly before, hindi nila nalaman na may TB don, it was too complicated because of her liver disease
The medical team only found out how bad the TB was until they opened ate Justine……
They are treating the TB on the belly the same way as they are curing the TB on the chest. The treatment will be longer. ~The treatment for the TB has been 2 weeks so far, walang nagsasabi na dapat 6months to itreat pero as of now hindi pa talaga ready for transplant si ate……
******the board is still figuring the appropriate time when ate Justine is ready to get back to the list and have a transplant
******Ate justine is awake, and may malay. She is in pain and needs to rest. Hindi sya confused. Hindi rin namin sya mejo kinakausap para makapagrest. Ate Justine is fighting and doing her very best!!!!!
The Surgery was aborted….. The Surgeon Doctors are now closing Ate Justine and plans on getting her back to the ICU…. The procedure was cancelled due to the TB was still needing to be cured…..
We have a liver donor available for ate Justine!!!! She will be doing the surgery tomorrow 5AM!
Lord, hear our prayers!!!! We surrender all our worries to you our Lord. May the Lord be with us, before/during/after the operation!!!
Ate Justine!! We are now back on the list and we are actively waiting for a compatible liver donor for you! The transplant team gave us an update that the treatment for the Tuberculosis is working and they decided to get you back on the list! As soon we get a compatible donor for you, they will notify us and you will get transplanted!!!
Thank you Lord, Ate Justine was really responsive today!!! the continuous dialysis really worked!!! The team is expecting for you to get better soon to the point you will be able to eat, sit, walk, or even lift/use a phone!!
Let’s keep on fighting and praying!
Ate Justine was transferred to the ICU yesterday.
Before she got transferred to the ICU, they found Tuberculosis and the medical team hold off my sister’s waiting list for the liver transplant until the TB gets under control.
Now at ICU, Ate Justine is doing continuous dialysis due to kidney failure…

Ate Justine! Wala ka naman daw Pneumonia pero positive ka naman for non contagious Tuberculosis. They hold off the waiting list for liver transplant kasi need munang i-cure si TB. And today, nagvisit ang Kidney team as your labs previous days had poor results, they recommend mag dialysis, and since mababa ang oxygen and blood pressure levels, ililipat sa ICU para makapag dialysis.
Ate Justine woke up very confused, she was not able to do bowel movement even with the help of lactulose. She speaks a little bit but still confused
Ate Justine keep on fighting!!! Laban lang tayo ha!

Yesterday they said you tested positive for Pneumonia… And now they are trying to look if you have Tuberculosis…
They are now treating the Pneumonia and I pray that you test negative on TB!!!
Keep on fighting Ate! Lets make sure na sundin natin and recommended diet, exercise, and breathing!! Hoping na magkaron ka na ng Liver Donor as soon as possible!!!
May the Almighty Lord be with us, and give Ate Justine the courage to fight the Liver Disease! Don’t lose hope kapatid!

Ate Justine confirmed na nasa waiting list ka na talaga!!! Di ako makapaniwala kagabi nung marinig ko!!!
Lord, thank you!! You answered to one of our prayers!!!
Now we are waiting for a liver donor!!!!
Ate Justine is still feeling short of breath when she sits on her bed, and feels dizzy when she stands for a bit…. This has been ongoing for a while now and this is stopping us what she she needs to do from Physical Therapy Team….
I am doing my best to be strict on her diet (like monitoring how many liquid she is taking and reporting to her nurses), encouraging her to get out of bed because she need to move around and not stay in bed all day, also giving her the emotional support when she’s having mental breakdowns due to her condition and past as well.
Lord, give her more strength to conquer this obstacle. Please hear all our prayers for Ate Justine! We surrender all our worries to you. Our Lady of Peace, Amen.

Pinalabas nila ako ng room, and I stayed strong! Good thing they made you back to your baseline oxygen level! Thank you Lord for guiding her back to us!
