Cheyanne is a 31-year-old woman trapped in her home due to chronic mental health issues. C-PTSD and Panic Disorder have ruled her life for as long as she can remember. Being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and in her adult life a survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence has left scars, both physical and mental, that feel like impenetrable barriers towards her goal of seeking a life worth living again. That desired life hinges on her ability to step outside unaccompanied. Her dream of independence, after more than a decade of mental health treatments and countless medications, could finally be within her grasp. Will you help Cheyanne to cross that threshold by assisting her with obtaining a Psychiatric Service Dog?
Cheyanne is a truly compassionate and empathetic person. Nonjudgmental in her approach to life, she does her best to connect with people from all different backgrounds. That connection has sadly been stunted offline by her inability to interact with the population at large. Online, however, is where she thrives and where her caring nature really shines through. Cheyanne is always willing to help others in need, going above and beyond to make sure others feel heard and understood. She is and has always been a fierce champion for those who need it the most. Now, even though it is terrifying to her to be this vulnerable, she needs a champion herself.
A psychiatric service dog, to Cheyanne, is her last resort. Caring for another living creature is no easy feat, and that fact is not lost on her. The dog would give her the ability to walk past her door without the reliance on another human being. He or she would be trained to watch for anxiety and panic cues, alert her to the beginnings of a panic attack, guide her to a place to deescalate, alert her to strangers passing while her back is turned, retrieve her emergency medication, interrupt destructive self harm behaviors, and provide deep pressure therapy to help regulate her nervous system.
Her ultimate hope is to regain employment and reintergrate herself into society. Having exhausted every other option available to her, from medications a-z and near every therapy imaginable, this is her last and only option remaining. It is all just too much, and she needs your help.
For full disclosure and a comprehensive price break down:
The service dog will be coming through a local organization called Joyful paws. https://joyfulpawsservicedogs.com/
The quoted price for the placement of the service dog will be up to $16,500 USD. That price is including:
-The Initial $2,000 USD Deposit for the dog.
-Dog placement on a leasing contract.
-All matchmaking interviews, evaluations and consultations.
-Dog’s existing gear: Collar, leash, cape, harness, bowl, toys, first bag of food etc.
Cheyanne has already paid out of pocket $338 USD, and is expecting each month to have to pay 180-200 dollars alone for the cost of being able to meet and interact with the dog she is matched with as of 10/25/2023. That is currently around 20% of her total monthly income. If she is unable to attain the funds for this dog, she will lose her opportunity to be matched this cycle and have to wait a whole 8-24 months for another match.
Anything in excess donated above that $16,500 will go towards the continued care for this service dog, and any additional fees for continued training that are not included in that initial $16,500 usd total.
That price is broken down further in the FAQ on Joyfulpaws’s website, as seen here:
