I am writing to you today with a plea that comes straight from the depths of my heart. My name is Randy Mesina. I’m 62 years old, and I am facing a formidable battle against a relentless lung disease.
I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis and emphysema 4 years ago. After being placed on oxygen I was forced to leave my job as a tradesman and go on disability. Life since hasn’t been easy, I was referred to UPMC for transplant and have gone through testing to make sure I was a good candidate for a lung transplant.
We take for granted the gift of oxygen until each breath becomes a precious commodity, and the hope for a brighter tomorrow rest on the possibility of a life-saving lung transplant.
As you can imagine, the road ahead is challenging, both physically and emotionally. What adds to the weight of this struggle is the overwhelming financial burden associated with the transplant process – from the procedure itself to post-transplant care and ongoing medical expenses.
This is where I humbly turn to you, seeking your support in this critical time of need.
I understand that we all have our challenges, and the world is filled with its own set of struggles. Yet, it is the strength of our community and the compassion within each of you that can make a difference.
Your generosity, no matter the amount, holds the power to transform my life and provide me with the opportunity to breathe freely once again.
Please consider contributing to my lung transplant fund and sharing this plea with your network. Your support is not just a financial contribution; it is a lifeline, a beacon of hope that can guide me towards a future filled with the simple joys of life we often take for granted.
I am deeply grateful for your consideration, your empathy, and your willingness to stand with me on this challenging journey. Together, let’s breathe life into my hopes for a healthier tomorrow.
With sincere gratitude, Randy Mesina

5/19/2025: I got the call for my lung transplant on 5/16/20205. Surgery was 5/17/2025 @ 1:30am and went well. I am currently in ICU recovering. Once out of the hospital I will need to return a few times a week to make sure there are no complications during recovery. Any help to cover parking and other costs would be greatly appreciated. Please pass this on to friends and family so I may get as much help as possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
