An avid outdoorsy kind of man, who enjoys and always seems to be out in the fresh air with our daughters, Jay enjoys being a great father and teaching our daughters how to do great things outside. One of those great things is Christian Street Ministry every Friday after he picks me up from work and the girls from school. He also likes teaching our daughters how to do some light landscaping, showing how to help and be there for others when they need help in whatever way that Jay feels he/we can help. As long as I have known my husband, he has been a very sunny dazzling bright light in the lives of everyone he has known.
Jay underwent an 8 hour spine surgery. Since his horrific accident, Jay has struggled with range of motion in his right arm. He can only move it up towards his head and back down. His can’t move his right hand, left arm, left hand and both of his legs and feet. He has to be turned every 2 hours and a nurse has to come in to sponge bathe Jay once a day.
Unfortunately, Jay’s health insurance is basic and the cost of care is enormous. An expected long-term needs include wheelchairs, wheelchair van for transportation to and from doctor’s appointments, modifications to our bathroom and other parts of our home. Health plans do not cover these items. Home modifications can cost anywhere between $5,000 – $380,000. A handicap accessible vehicle can cost anywhere from $35,000 – $56,000. Time is very much of the essence that we are talking about here……and this is the reason that Jay is fundraising for. The Reeve Foundation has listed $184,891 for the first year costs and 2.5 million for a lifetime costs for a 50 year old, 4.7 million for a 20 year old.
We have been a one income family due to Jay’s prior disability. I work at the Waldron Elementary School Cafeteria here in Waldron AR. With one income, we could only afford one vehicle. We have always been active in various School activities and sports and I teach Children’s Church and Jay and I and our 3 daughters have a street ministry here in our small town. Sadly, The one vehicle that we had is the one that was totaled. We are looking to place him in a rehabilitation facility soon. That will mean that he should be home soon.
We are in desperate need of home modifications and a handicap accessible vehicle. It is my sincere hope that you will be able to assist us in any or all of these things. Together we can do so much to improve Jays’ prognosis and he is very much motivated to begin his long rehabilitation journey. Your financial support will not go unnoticed. We are very much grateful for your assistance and kindly ask that you share this with your key contacts or social networks and religious organizations.
Help Hope Live is a 501 non-profit charitable organization. They distribute all funds to providers directly. Contributions have no personal gain to others than to Jays’ direct needs. 12/25/2023 Praise God, we (Aubrey, Mykenzi, Serenity, Laurie, Donald Sr. and myself) were able to spend Christmas with Jay today. This Christmas was very much different than Christmas's past, but we are so grateful that we are here together. It's been so difficult for us having to go through this, but we are going through it together and we know that God will get us through this together. Merry Christmas to each of you from our loving family to yours. God Bless.
On November 5, 2023 (I'm sorry, but I forgot to include this update; this experience has been so overwhelming for our family)
Let me just boast in the Lord right now!! Y'all our Lord Jesus Christ is so faithful and never leaves us. He has bee at work in all this and I'm watching a miracle before my eyes! Keep praying y'all GOD IS LISTENING! THE DEVIL WILL NOT WIN!! IN JESUS NAME!!! So I planned on going to visit Jay today after church but I completely forgot about a meeting that I needed to attend at church and so I attended. So I called the hospital for an update and Praise the Lord, Jay was off the vent and on the trachea collar for a whole hour today. Meaning he was disconnected from the vent and place with little oxygen assistance on the collar and was breathing on his own!!! HALLELUJAH THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOU ARE WORTHY TO BE PRAISED EVEN IN THE STORMS WE MAY FACE IT IS ALL IN HIS CONTROL!!! JESUS YOU ARE SO FAITHFUL!!! KEEP THEM PRAYERS COMING FOR JAY.
But you, Lord , are a shield around me, my glory, and the one who lifts up my head. I cry aloud to the Lord, and He answers me from His holy mountain. Psalms 3:3&4

12/22/2023 Praise God, the doctors went down from an 8 to a 6 on Jay's tracheotomy; next will be a 4. This means an actual downsizing of the actual tracheotomy. The purpose of downsizing is to allow Jay to be able to do more of the breathing around the tube, rather than through the tube. When the initial problem that initiated placement of the trach is resolved, downsizing may begin. For example, when the tube was placed because of prolonged mechanical ventilation, downsizing can begin as soon as the patient has been weaned from the ventilator. Please pray that after they bring his tracheotomy down to a 4 that not long afterwards, he can have the tracheotomy completely out.
12/19/2023 Praise God, we are finally approved to move Jay back to Select Specialty Hospital and will be moving him back today. Jay, our daughters and myself feel so much better. Once he is strong enough he will be moved back to the rehabilitation facility for rehab for a few weeks and then he will go home. Please continue to pray for a full recovery and healing of my loving husband. Our oldest daughter, mentioned to Jay today, that she can't wait for him to come home so that she can cut her birthday cake and we all, as a family, can enjoy eating her birthday cake, since we couldn't do this on her 13th birthday, which was on September 27, 2023, the same day that Jay was involved in the car accident.
12/12/2023 Talk about a very scary night. After we got settled in the new rehabilitation facility and things were a bit calmer. Jay was having a hard time breathing all night and they sent him to the ER at Mercy Hospital. In mine as well as Jay's opinion, they medications that Jay is currently taking was not readily available and so it took a good while for Jay to get his medications. The medical staff did not want to suction him a lot because they did not want to irritate his throat but I really do feel that this is what he was really needing. I believe he was moved too soon to the rehabilitation facility and still needed to be at Select Specialty Hospital a bit longer before he gets moved to rehab. I have emailed the case manager at Select Specialty Hospital to inform her of my thoughts in hopes that they move Jay back to their hospital. The case manager's email response is that we need to wait and get approval before he can be moved back. Jay and our girls and myself have been praying that he gets moved fairly quick.
12/10/2023 Jay was informed today that he will be moved to a rehabilitation facility tomorrow, where he will have more physical therapy. He will be at this facility for anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks and then he will be going home. As much as we want nothing more to have him home, I am very concerned at what I am going to do. Our home is not handicap accessible. I am not able to find anyone that can donate their time and supplies to modify our home like our bathroom, bathroom sink, bathtub/shower, ramp, etc... I don't know how I will get him home since we do not have funds to buy a handicap accessible vehicle either. It is a bit overwhelming for us but I know God will get us through it all.
