We are reaching out to you all with the story of Terri – If you have been a part Terri’s life you are aware that she is a beloved mother of three boys, Zach, Ian, and Garr.. and her fur baby Ralph, and a loving grandmother of two precious girls, Charlotte and Kyley. Terri has always been a loyal friend, a devoted nurse, but above all….a kind and loving soul with an incredibly strong embodiment of determination.
Terri’s life took an unexpected and challenging turn when she was diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in January 2022. IPF is a chronic, progressive, irreversible and usually fatal interstitial lung disease which affects approximately 100,000 people in the US. On average, patients who are diagnosed with IPF live between two and five years from diagnosis, given the limited medicines available to treat the disease.
This diagnosis has been life changing and terrifying…IPF is characterized by thickening and scarring of the connective (interstitial) tissue in the lungs. The cause is thought to be due to an abnormal wound-healing process that results in excessive tissue build-up in the lung.
Terri’s first signs were the inability to catch her breath… extreme fatigue…but life went on and she continued to care for her mother, who was unable to care for herself any longer, 24/7 until her death on October 6, 2020, Terri’s 57th birthday.
This year we all celebrated Terri’s 60th birthday and we look forward to many many birthdays ahead…. but Terri has a very difficult road ahead which is why we chose to launch this fundraiser.
As we have learned this disease is chronic, progressive, and irreversible. There is only one option…..so Terri began her journey for double lung transplant this summer…. She is currently in the process of ‘transplant listing’ which involves many appointments, testings, evaluations, most of which are done in Boston at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
So the process has begun and with much uncertainty we, as a family, are surrounding Terri with love, support, and unwavering positive energy. The financial impact it will have on Terri and her family will be insurmountable. Terri will be out of work for a significant amount of time; healing, rehabilitating, and hopefully regaining her quality of life. She is unsure if she will be able to continue nursing after the surgery is complete and she has fully rehabilitated. So the future of her beloved career is uncertain.
There is so much we don’t know at this point… but Terri remains optimistic and positive! Although there are restrictions in place, medications, oxygen support, and incredible fatigue….Terri continues to do the things she loves… and is still working.
In conclusion… We are indeed fortunate that Terri’s health insurance will cover the bulk of the cost of the surgery…. but there are so many other financial obligations to consider…. our hope is that by the generosity of those who have had the honor of sharing Terri’s life, we can eliminate the pressure and stress that severe financial restraints can cause.
Donations to our efforts will be deeply appreciated … whether large or small… each one will provide a sense of peace on this unpredictable journey.
Please accept our heartfelt thanks, in advance, for your support…..and please join us by wishing Terri a successful, happy and healthy outcome!!

Hi all..... what feels like forever was actually a long 9 hour surgery..... but it is behind us now.... Terri came through her surgery very well and is the proud owner of....(and as Terri worded it herself) "The shiny, pink pre-owned, Barbie lungs". We are so beyond grateful for this amazing surgical team who brought her through and gave her a new lease on her life...and that this donor was so unselfishly generous... and so incredibly grateful for all the prayers and well wishes that have poured through from family and friends.... every single prayer counts!!
So now on to the recovery...as we know, it will be a long one however.... one day at a time until Terri returns home.
Good Morning all... At this time Terri is in surgery to receive her new lungs. As a family we can do nothing but wait, and pray, and pray some more. This has been a true test of patience for all but in particular, for Terri. Each day and with each possible donor, and there were 4 before today, we watched her unwavering faith and strength and also watched her disappointment as each set of lungs were not viable for her. However, here we are... Terri has been in surgery since approximately 3:00 am and we are beyond anxious to hear from her doctors and the team....
We have such heartfelt gratitude for the generosity of this donor and their family.... May God bless them during this time of loss and sadness.
The power of prayer is tremendous and so I ask..... please pray.
I will update again as soon as we know ......
To all our friends and family... for everyone who has been following Terri's journey.... I would like to update you all.
Terri took a very unexpected turn in her battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis earlier this month as she was afflicted with the flu which lead to pneumonia for the second time during the month of February. Terri was rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital and was admitted to the ICU with extreme difficulty breathing and dangerously low oxygen intake. At this point her medical team chose to intubate her under heavy sedation. While waiting for a bed at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston Terri remained sedated on a ventilator.... on February 15th Terri was safely flown by an emergency transport helicopter to Boston.
With the help of an amazing team in the MICU at Brighams, thankfully, Terri has turned a corner.....the good news is that the pneumonia has cleared, Terri is awake and off the ventilator! She has received a tracheotomy with oxygen support and is now awaiting her lung transplant. She is currently non-verbal however her spirits are good.... her sense of humor has not diminished .... she is comfortable and gaining strength everyday...While she remains at Brigham and Women's Hospital, let's continue our support and prayers for Terri and her family as she continues to bravely face such uncertainty with unwavering faith!!
