My name is Robert Kraucunas, I’m a 47 year old father of 4 and 2 grand children.
I was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, and NSIP. In July 2023, I was recommended to UW Madison for a lung transplant list from the specialist in Sterling, Illinois. I had my week long evaluation for lung transplant on December 5th through the 8th, and I’m finding out that a lot of these medicines won’t fully be covered under my insurance and my medicines I need to take for the rest of my life. My support person needs to stay down with me through the transplant and getting the rehabilitation going. I have to stay close to Madison for six to eight weeks, could be even longer depending on how I’m recovering. I’ve never been one to ask for help in anything in my life and I’m having a hard time asking for help right now, but it is overwhelming to deal with lung transplant and wondering about having the funds to cover the cost of staying somewhere while I’m in recovery.
Family and friends of Robert Kraucunas are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Robert has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. To make a tax-deductible donation to this fundraising campaign, click on the Give button.

Thank you for your support!
March 30th 2024 Well just wanted to put an update on here. Since my transplant on February 3rd i’ve been admitted to the hospital one time March 6 for a rejection and an infection, which took a lot out of me and a prolong my stay at restoring Hope Transplant House in Middleton Wisconsin, which I am cured nice amount of fees. But in the long run, I ended up with a rejection going away as of right now I am back at home. I will never be out of the woods, though on a daily basis I can going to rejection or get an infection and being readmitted to the hospital or I will need my support person Ralph Trenholm, or my son Kenan to be there with me and then I have to get a place to stay even while I’m admitted in the hospital. Like I said before, this is very hard for me to do is ask for help. but I could sure use the help. If you can donate anything, the money is tax deductible or even if you live close by and could help me would be appreciated, but either way Whether you can donate or not, please keep the prayers coming for me. God bless you too. Hall said read this and God bless my daughter family for a second chance at life. Thank you very much for your time.
It’s been a long time on a update but The doctors admitted me on January 18 because I couldn’t keep it under 15 L of oxygen and then I was listed on the transplant list on 20 January. I received the call on 2nd of February and was transplanted the 3rd of February. A very painful and still have tubes in my body can’t drink water fully but I can breathe good God is good. i’ve been doing a lot of treatments, nebulizers and medicines, and some of these nebulizers that I have to be on are out do my own pocket they range between $1600-$2500 but I might not have to take them for the rest of my life maybe just a few months. But I appreciate that the prayers that I receiving and if there’s anything anyone can do to help me with funding for the housing for me to be down here and future meds, insulin needles, and stuff that my insurance will not cover anything is good enough, even if not, just keep the prayers coming for me because this is a lifelong battle I will have to deal with. God bless you all.
January 23
Well I went to Madison on January 18th to talk to the surgeons and do breathing tests. The tests didn’t come back good they admitted me to the hospital. They’re still doing a lot of tests and bloodwork on me. One good thing is they put me on the lung transplant list so now I’m just waiting for a phone call and after the phone call I will be going under the knife average is 36 to 48 hrs after the call, but it’s been as soon as 12 hrs. So please if you can donate anything it would help towards the housing for my me and my support person ( Ralph) . But either way can you keep praying for me God bless all of you.
Update December 21st
I had to see a psychologist for two hours to see if I’m fit to deal with lung transplant or something like that kind of stressful because psychiatrist always think you’re depressed but I think I’m doing pretty good for just finding out I need a lung transplant 5 months ago but I told her it’s in Gods hands they will either give me the lungs or I’ll live the rest of my days out trying to help people. Then I had another procedure they cut my inner lip and took 9 clusters of labial salivary gland and stitched it up.it is one more test to see if I have Sjorgens Syndrome which is something autoimmune that can mess up my lungs but I won’t find out the results for about a week so it’s pretty much sir just poking and taking samples of everything to see what I can find out it gets old tires on but I’m gonna keep on going with it God bless you all and I hope you all have a merry Christmas and a happy new year
December 18th update
I had procedure done towards my lung transplant evaluation. It was very uncomfortable and pretty draining it was a esophageal manometry and I had 24 hour ph impedence studies. This copper wire goes down my nose into my esophagus all the way down to my stomach 53 cm into my body at work for the first test. I had to take some swallows of some Of some water while laying down with this in my throat and then I had to sit up and do the same thing. The worst one was the 24 hour pH impedence study. That was very annoying to have taken drinks eating it was really uncomfortable feeling not being able to swallow food right it felt really weird and it will pull the cord a little bit and that was in there about 40 cm the whole time. Let alone I had to stay overnight but I am feeling better today and that is all for the update I have right now. I will update again later this week when I go back to the doctor in Madison.God bless everyone
Update December 13th talked with my transplant coordinator today and she said all the test that I’ve done last week we’re all good wouldn’t stop me from being put on the transplant list. That is very encouraging there are a few more tests I need to do in a few more hurdles I need to get over but she said as long as them go good I should be able to get put on the transplant list. I go next week Monday for one of them tests and I should know the outcome of that test 2 to 3 days later and then I got a couple more tests in January one day at a time though I live for today and I pray for tomorrow with God‘s will and God’s help God bless all you
My oxygen was at 4 to 5 L when walking or exerting myself just about a month ago.
And then my six minute walk I had in the evaluation it went to a 15 L when I’m exercising in exerting myself so I’m kind of going downhill a little more fast then I was planning. My heart looks good from the results of the testing. I did have a small thing by my throat I went to the doctor today and they looked at it and they said it’s not cancerous so that’s a plus. I go to the doctor for one last test on 18 December and I have to stay overnight in Madison and then I go back and they take the thing out of my throat and then after all of that I should find out if they’re gonna put me on the transplant list or not right now.
