Hello everyone! My name is Safiyyah Beckford-Green. My dad, Rolando Beckford, needs our help. Our family and friends are coming together to raise funds for his medical expenses related to transplantation through Help Hope Live.In 2016, my dad faced an unexpected challenge when he was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. While traveling to spend time with family, his lungs collapsed mid-air. His diagnosis not only came as a surprise for our family, but it came with an uphill battle that a 64-year-old would not expect. He had retired from his job as a postal worker, hoping to spend more time traveling, enjoying his wife, children, and grandchildren a lot more. Instead, his condition has worsened over the last seven years, and now he urgently needs new lungs. My dad used to be so active and engaged, especially when it came to spending time with us and playing strategy games. But now, his life mostly revolves around home and hospital stays. Simple tasks like talking, cooking, or even walking have become difficult for him due to constant coughing and breathing issues. This journey has taken a toll on my dad and our family. He struggles with daily activities, misses family events, and milestones like his granddaughter’s sweet sixteen celebration, his grandson’s graduation, the birth of his youngest grandson and family weddings among others. To keep living, he needs a double lung transplant, which comes with significant expenses like medical deductibles, travel costs, room and board for at least four months after the surgery, caregiver fees and follow-up appointment costs for at least a year.My dad is hopeful that with this transplant, he can regain some sense of normalcy in his life. He wants to be able to do everyday tasks without struggling and spend quality time with us again. We are asking for your support. Please consider donating to Help Hope Live in honor of my dad, Rolando, and spread the word to your family, friends, and colleagues.
