On May 12th (mothers day ) I had my heart transplant at 4pm at Vanderbilt University hospital. I'm doing great but still in the hospital. Hopefully I'll get discharged in the next couple of days. I have to stay in nashville for 6wks for my recovery. I miss home already but it's all worth it. I received the best gift ever. I now have a guardian angel for life. I'm so greatful
On April 28th 2024 I was officially listed at Vanderbilt hospital in Tennessee. So I am now duel listed at Piedmont in ATL and Vandy in TN. I continue to fight through this and I'm very confident with both teams at both hospitals.
On March 1st I had the barostim implant put in. It's a device that will hopefully help with some of these symptoms. Such as fatigue, shortness of breath etc. I'm hopeful. I know in a few weeks how it's working. For now I'm just recovering from the surgery and continue to push forward.
On August 4th 2023 Melissia was admitted to the hospital and was diagnosed with dialated cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. At the age of 46. Soon after to find out its genetic and caused by a mutated gene called titin. On November 14th 2023 Melissia was again admitted to the hospital to find out they want to start the evaluation for a heart transplant. On January 31st 2024 she was officially listed and is currently waiting for her gift. She has been so hopeful and will be so grateful to be able to continue living her life to the fullest with her husband and 3 daughters.
Melissia continues to look forward to living a full and productive life despite the emotional and physical challenges she faces. She is determined to continue to take care of her family and spend as much time as possible with her husband 3 daughters and her fur baby Minnie.
As you can imagine the medical costs for something as catastrophic as this can add up very quickly. Even with insurance the out of pocket expenses are extreme. As we prepare for this transplant and prepare for post transplant care we need your support more then ever.
Donations to Hope Help Live can help ease the financial burden we're facing as a family and give Melissia a second chance to live her life to the fullest.
