On February 4, 2021 Nash woke up from his nap unable to breathe correctly. He was rushed to the ER where all tests and scans were clear.
They life flighted him to the Children’s Hospital 2 1/2 hours away. He was checked into the PICU and sent down for an MRI immediately. The MRI showed inflammation of his spinal cord from the bottom of the brain stem down to T7 vertebrae.
At just 6 months old Nash was paralyzed from the neck down with a rare disease called Acute Flaccid Myelitis. It is considered this generations Polio.
Nash received a tracheotomy and ventilator for breathing, and a g-button in his stomach for feeding. He and his mom spent the next 6 months in the hospital and inpatient rehab away from their family and his siblings back home. He is fully dependent on someone else for everything. Mom found an intense spinal cord injury rehabilitation program that Nash now attends daily.
They lived in the Ronald McDonald House for 875 days before finally moving into their accessible home just two months ago.
He is a thriving, happy, and sassy 4 year old! He has come a long way since day one, and we want to continue helping him get stronger.
Some of the things we are raising funds for are more stem cells therapy which will help with nerve regeneration. Also more medical equipment to help with his speech therapy since he is non-verbal. Aquatic therapy that will help him gain more movement.
