Mark is a 47year old husband and father of two and has worked in the maritime industry for over 25 years. He was diagnosed with irreversible liver disease late last Fall, 2023. Mark has been approved to receive a liver transplant and is now awaiting a donor liver to become available.

Mark loves spending time with his family and friends. He is a huge Houston Astro fan and watches their games on TV whenever he can. Mark’s gregarious personality has resulted in many enduring friendships over the course of several years. He makes friends easily and never “meets a stranger”.

Since being diagnosed in November, 2023, Mark has struggled with excessive fatigue and weakness, and massive weight loss. He has endured countless hospital stays due to kidney failure, a reaction caused by the liver’s inability to function properly. The liver disorder has caused an accumulation of fluid (called “ascites”) to build up in the abdomen, which causes him breathing difficulties. A hospital procedure called “paracentesis” is performed to remove the fluid. This procedure entails a doctor to insert a needle into the abdomen, via an ultrasound scan, to remove 5-7 liters of fluid at one time.
This procedure is repeated on a weekly basis until a liver donor transplant is made available.
