Handicap van needed!
Maria is a wife and mother of 2 children. She has a genetic, degenerative neuromuscular disease, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, that worsened quicker than normal 20 years ago due to gastroparesis which required a feeding tube into her small intestine for nutrition. Maria uses a power chair to get around due to extreme weakness in her legs.
An artist and voracious reader, Maria loves to paint cards to send to friends and family. Maria can never have enough books surrounding her and loves to read books to her kids. She is a free spirited, fun loving person who is always thinking of others no matter how she’s feeling.
Due to gastroparesis, Maria feels like she has a stomach bug all the time. The intense
nausea is one of the hardest things to deal with. Feeling like you’ve just eaten 2 combo meals from McDonald’s after just eating a couple bites of food can be debilitating but not being able to run, go on nature walks without a path, or dance with your kids hurts even more.
Maria is fundraising for a new handicap van. Her current vehicle is so old that they are having a hard time finding parts to fix the accessible features. Her swivel seat doesn’t always work, and the AC in the back of the van doesn’t work well even after getting it “fixed”. A new or used handicap van is ridiculously expensive, and the price of the vehicle doesn’t include the cost of a swivel seat or the hand controls. A swivel seat alone is $5,000-10,000! She’s hoping to raise $90,000 to cover the cost of a new or used van plus the swivel seat and hand controls. Hopefully, she can find one cheaper than that!
Independence is important in everyone’s life, and Maria is no different. She wants to stay as independent as possible. Having a working accessible van will enable her to keep going to appointments and taking her kids anywhere they need to go. Maria is hoping to finally visit her family once she has a new vehicle since she hasn’t seen them for seven years due to military life and now because of her van.
Please donate to Help Hope Live so Maria can keep her freedom. Ask your friends and family to contribute, and if you can’t give anything, please share this fundraiser all over social media. Thank you for your support!
