Norma is currently facing her most difficult trial yet. While on a camping trip with her daughter, Norma suffered a tragic fall which injured her spinal cord, rendering her paralyzed from the waist down. Though Norma is grateful to be a survivor of such a traumatic incident, to suddenly have the use of her legs taken away from her has been a heartbreaking reality to face. Despite this, Norma continues to believe that God is using her life for His glory. She is determined to not let her circumstances hold her back, and has been brainstorming ways she can continue serving and uplifting others even from the hospital.
An undeniable trait about Norma is that she is a hard worker. The weeks following her injury have brought her to an Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Austin, an acute physical rehabilitation center, and now to a transitional care facility in Dallas. Though the weeks following her accident have resulted in tough days of physical rehabilitation and a test of her mental resiliency, Norma sees each day as an opportunity to improve her strength. In each facility, she has impressed her doctors and caregivers by the effort she gives during her physical therapy sessions and we are all inspired by her determination.
Despite this, there are elements of this journey that are difficult to overcome alone. One reality is that spinal cord injuries can incur significant ongoing medical expenses. Norma has spent her life supporting others. Now, we (her family) are asking for your help in supporting her through this time. Some of the expenses we are fundraising for are needs not covered by insurance such as:
— Hospital expenses
— Out-patient physical therapy
— Medical equipment
— Wheelchair accessories (such as all-terrain front wheel attachment and electric power assist)
— Exercise-based physical therapy program designed for adults with SCI (REACT Neuro-rehab in Addison)
— Adaptive sports wheelchair
We are grateful for the deep love and support Norma has received since the beginning of this journey, and are grateful for any amount of support you are able to offer. We have chosen to partner with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Thank you for your love and support! Together, we will help Norma through this difficult time.
Hi everyone,
Thank you for all of your generosity. There is no amount of words that can express our gratitude for your gifts.
Norma is currently still in rehabilitation and is working through new challenges every day. She is grateful for your thoughts and prayers lifting her up through this difficult time.
Currently, the gift of your donation is being used to help Norma maintain her medical insurance, as her job has recently let her go due to her inability to work. We are grateful for the resources you have provided her, as they are helping her have access to quality care in the Dallas area. Access to quality rehabilitation services this early in her journey will play a pivotal role in her recovery.
As her daughter, I ask that you would consider sharing this page with your community and continue to lift her up in your prayers. Witnessing the outpouring of love she has received from you all is simply a testament to the light Norma is to everyone around her.
With love,
Paulina
