In 2011 Marcelo Andrew Martinez suffered a heart attack while hanging out with his friends. Andrew had no history of any medical condition. His friends decided to transport him to the nearest hospital and attempt CPR on the way. When he finally arrived at the ER he had no pulse but by the grace of God, the staff was able to revive him.
Andrew’s heart completely healed and went back to normal within the week. However, his brain suffered the most damage due to a lack of oxygen.
Presently, Andrew lives in an assisted living facility. Andrew is not very responsive however, with your help, we pray to see him return to the young silly, jokester that he was. His doctor’s informed us back in 2011 not to expect more than involuntary movements from him but since then we’ve seen him laugh, cry, attempt to speak and progressively respond to commands.
Marcelo is improving little by little. But it will be a long road and it will require years of expensive therapies. To assist with the immense challenge of financing uninsured therapies, home modifications and other injury-related expenses, a fundraising campaign in Marcelo’s honor has been established with Help Hope Live, a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for over 30 years. In 2000, they expanded their mission to include those who have sustained a catastrophic injury. All contributions are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law, are held by Help Hope Live in the Southeast Catastrophic Injury Fund, and are administered by Help Hope Live for injury-related expenses only.
If you are able and would like to make a contribution, please select the “Donate Now” button or see the check writing instructions on the right side of this page.
