In August 2022 my daughter, Rylee, was diagnosed with nephronophthisis- a rare genetic disorder affecting her kidney function. Over the past 2 years, she has completed many tests and has been monitored closely by her nephrologist. Due to her kidney function being low, we were informed very early on that a kidney transplant would be needed in the near future. Shortly after we started the search for a kidney donor for Rylee, my niece, Hannah, was found to be a perfect match. This is so meaningful to our family because Rylee and Hannah have a relationship that is much closer to sisters than cousins and they have been attached at the hip since birth.
Once a donor was found for Rylee, we quickly needed to begin the process of getting the surgery scheduled due to Rylee’s declining kidney function. Her kidney function has been stable for approximately a month now at 12, but is expected to drop to 8-9 prior to receiving the transplant in June. Thankfully Rylee will not need to start dialysis prior to her surgery since this is scheduled for the near future.
While we are so grateful that the surgery will be soon taking place, the financial stress of this has begun to set in. Due to this, we will be having a fundraiser benefit in Rylee’s honor to assist us in the financial burden of her medical expenses. This will be taking place on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Bayne’s Apple Valley in Freeland, MI from 6-9PM. We will be having a 50/50 raffle, along with a silent auction style raffle of donations from many different businesses and friends. There will also be food and drink sold during this time by Baynes, so please feel free to come by and support Rylee on her transplant journey. Any and all donations are appreciated!
Thank you all for your continued support! We look forward to seeing everyone at the benefit!
