Family and friends of Ruben Lopez are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.

Help Ruben Stay Alive

Hello, this is Ruben Lopez Martinez. He is 49 years old. Ruben was diagnosed with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) in March of 2019. ESRD is a medical condition in which a person’s kidneys cease functioning on a permanent basis leading to the need for a regular course of long-term dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life. Ruben is currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. He has been on this list for four years now. His journey, as that of many with the same condition/disease, has not been easy. In order for Ruben to stay alive he has to be on peritoneal dialysis for 12 hours every night. A patient can only be on peritoneal dialysis for 5 years and Ruben is in his 4th year. Due to this condition Ruben was incapable of working and lost his income. In January 2023 Ruben lost part of his left leg from the knee down due to ESRD and other complications. Despite Ruben having medical insurance he is still facing out of pocket medical expenses in addition to his personal expenses.

Even though Ruben struggles day to day to maintain his health he has followed all of his doctor’s instructions to the tee. Making sacrifices not everyone is willing to make to stay alive. He is a person who is 100% resilient and has a kind and gentle heart, always helping and guiding others. Even with all his struggles he has a huge desire to live and have a better quality of life to enjoy time with his family and loved ones.

Donations made to Help Hope Live will help Ruben live a normal and healthy life by covering expenses that are not covered by his insurance during the transplant process and when the time comes for his transplant. All and any help is greatly appreciated by Ruben and his family.
