Jeffrey McRae is a 55 yr old husband, father, Papa, uncle, brother, and friend who lived a hard life of a bull hauler until his hard diagnosis was received on December 15,2023. Jeff was diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Cirrhosis of the Liver and quickly started trying to manage his disease with medication, diet, and lifestyle changes. Jeff had to quit his job doing what he loved hauling cows and working on the ranch worked for. Jeff had to make the ultimate decision to move as he was no longer working for the ranch he lived on. With all these struggles, Jeff’s family and friends have come together to help him and his wife, Jeanette to not fight this battle alone. After completing and doing all the things to get on the waitlist for a liver transplant, Jeff has been blessed enough to receive the lifesaving gift of a liver transplant.
Jeff has always been avid outdoorsman. He loved to be on the water, and on any warm day you could find him at the lake fishing with light of his eyes, his grandchildren. If he wasn’t in the boat, you could look in the water and find him shoving his hands in a catfish holes, noodling for the BIG fish. Jeff is the type of person who would do anything he could to help others, and if he doesn’t have it or can’t do it, he would find you someone who could. He has always been known to many, especially his 18-wheeler buddies to answer the phone and be there to fix any problem their big rig may have.
Jeff has had to give up a lot with his diagnosis and disease progression. He had to give up his career, his home, and his hobbies. With the cirrhosis advancing quickly he had no energy to do much of anything. He gave up watching grandkids play sports, taking them fishing, going to any family gatherings and his life pretty much consisted of sleeping on the couch.
Jeff is fundraising for the cost of medical expenses he has inquired from this terrible disease and blessing of a transplant. Jeff and Jeanette have had to temporarily relocate to Dallas to stay nearby Jeff’s doctors and transplant team and will be there for an undetermined amount of time. Leading up to his transplant Jeff had to have all his teeth removed due to infection and decay, leading Jeff to have to rely on others to cover these types of cost. Jeff’s current medical debt is in the amount of $20,000 with the potential to rise if he experiences any setbacks or complications leading them to stay away from home for longer.
Jeff’s hopes are that with this liver transplant he will be able to live a long, healthy life full of life surrounded by friends and family and try to get back to a normal life. He looks forwards to getting home, going fishing, and spending time with those he loves. Jeff hopes he will be able to return to some type of work and get back to functioning in society.
