Building my life, through adversity: A Chloe Kaiser Story
One moment Chloe was celebrating her high school graduation at 2023 Grad Night, and the next morning she was in a hospital diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure.
Spring of 2024, Chloe was officially diagnosed with Nephronophthisis, a very rare recessive cystic kidney disorder, that occurs in two in a million people. While Chloe is in urgent need of a kidney transplant, Nephronophthisis is a lifetime disease that may display a variety of challenges for Chloe throughout her lifetime.
Our hope is to raise donations to help Chloe navigate and manage her challenges, support her through these pivotal years so that she can have the chance to earn a college degree and support herself through a lifetime with lifesaving medical needs.
Chloe is a natural born leader and teacher with a love of birds. She has raised birds since she was two years old. Throughout her years in 4H she has taught kids twice her age about the specialties of birds, aviary disease, and served as a poultry judge and coach. She has assisted fellow 4H kids in showing and raising poultry locally and throughout the state of New Mexico.
Chloe has her whole life ahead and this disease has really thrown a wrench in a young adult life. One night she graduates from high school and the next morning she lands in the hospital and two days later she learns she suffers from kidney failure. It’s been a roller-coaster of a quick transition into adulthood for Chloe.
Chloe’s courageous attitude and incredible perseverance has given her the strength to take this all in stride. Because this disease was discovered at the age of 18, she has navigated these challenges as an adult. She has handled the challenge with grace and courage serving as best advocate and navigating the medical insurance system, endless doctors appointments and tests, and making decisions about how she will navigate her life ahead.
Donation’s will help Chloe recover after transplant and manage this rare disease over her lifetime. May 2023, Chloe was diagnosed with kidney failure. June 2024 Chloe learned of her rare disease, Nephronophthisis. The funds generated will assist Chloe in travel and lodging to her Nephronophthisis specialist. These donations will be used for travel, lodging, co-pays, medications and more to support her during the three months she will need to stay near the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix Arizona.
Chloe’s disease will not be fixed with a transplant, managing this disease will be a lifetime of appointments and check-ups. Post kidney transplant, Chloe will require anti-rejection drugs for the rest of her life.
At the ripe old age of 19 years old, Chloe is in need of donations to help her continue to manage her life ahead with as much independence in her life as possible. Your donation will ensure that Chloe and her family have the funds needed to support Chloe’s stay in Phoenix during her kidney transplant. Your valuable donations will help Chloe continue to see a specialist that’s seven hours away from her home.
When you suffer from a rare disease that only two in a million people have, finding specialist are challenging and the obstacles in getting there are many. While Medicare will assist Chloe post-transplant for 36 months, it will not help beyond that and with a kidney transplant, Chloe will need a variety of medications to ensure her body does not reject the kidney transplant.
I wish I could imagine a day that Chloe will fully recover, but that’s not her reality. Chloe will always suffer from Nephronophthisis. Your involvement and support over her lifetime will help her live a more normal life.
Our family and friends are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live in honor of Chloe Kaiser to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with transplantation.
Chloe has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Chloe went to Mayo last week for her annual physical and kidney check up. All was good and Chloe left thrilled with her status and results. We could not be more pleased with her progress and more grateful for the giving. These funds have given Chloe the freedom to go to college and maintain her health care needs during this very critical time in her life. We are truly blessed!!!

August 1, 2024, Chloe went to Aurora Colorado to meet with a rare disease specialist for longer term disease care. The specialist was happy to meet Chloe and agreed to take her on as a patient, post kidney transplant, to help her manage her Nephronophthisis. He reviewed her genetics and believes her disease complications will be minimal. Right now - Chloe just needs a functioning kidney!
July 25, 2024, Denise Robertson (mom) was approved for a paired donation with Chloe. Denise has a different blood type, so a direct kidney donation to Chloe doesn't work. Denise and Chloe are in navigating next steps of a paired donation process with the Mayo Clinic in Pheonix.
