Help Robert Gage: A Brother, Son, and Uncle in Need of a Lifesaving Liver TransplantIn October 2023, our lives changed forever when my brother, Robert Gage, was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver due to fatty liver disease. At just 40 years old, Robert has always been the rock of our family—an unwavering brother, a devoted son, and a loving uncle. He’s the kind of man who thrives on giving, whether it’s taking his nieces to Disneyland or being the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Now, it’s our turn to support him.As a hardworking individual, Robert has always prided himself on his independence. He’s dedicated to his job and has been a constant source of strength for our family. But as his health has deteriorated, he’s faced challenges he never anticipated. The progression of his disease has taken a toll, forcing him to step back from work and deal with brain fog and confusion that make everyday tasks overwhelming.Robert is currently in the process of qualifying for the transplant list at UCLA, and while this is a hopeful step, the road ahead is fraught with uncertainty. Liver transplants come with significant medical expenses that can quickly escalate, leaving families grappling with financial burdens on top of emotional distress.Robert is the kind of person who hates to ask for help. He would rather give the shirt off his back than reach out for support. But we know he needs us now more than ever. He dreams of regaining his health so he can focus on starting his own family and continue being a pivotal presence in the lives of his nieces and nephews. We are launching a fundraising campaign to help cover medical expenses, necessary treatments, and the costs associated with the transplant process. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to giving Robert the second chance he deserves. Please consider supporting Robert in this challenging time. Share his story, spread the word, and, if you can, donate to help us lift him up. Together, we can show Robert that he’s not alone in this fight—that we stand beside him, just as he’s always stood for us.Let’s rally for Robert, a man who has always given so much to others. It’s time for us to give back.Robert has chosen to fundraise for Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability of funds raised and tax deductibility for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses. As the year continues on, we are working hard alongside Robert's team of doctors to get him approved and placed on the transplant list. We are grateful to share that we are nearly finished with all of the testing required for approval. Once that process is complete, our next step will be working to get Robert transferred to Fresno for his transplant so he can recover closer to home after surgery. In February, Robert underwent an ablations procedure to help slow the cancerous tumor in his liver. Unfortunately, a follow-up MRI revealed additional tumors, and he is now scheduled for another ablation. The foal of these regular MRIs and treatments is to slow the cancer's progression and ensure it has not spread to other vital organs.Robert continues to do his best to stay positive through all of this, but cancer takes more out of a person than most people realize unless they've experienced it firsthand. Even through the difficult days, he still enjoys going out to eat with his mom and siter and spending time with his nieces- those moments mean everything to him.We are standing beside Robert every step of this fight, and every donation, share, prayer and work of encouragement truly helps more than we can express. We are so incredibly thankful for everyone who has supported him so far, whether through donating or simply helping share his story.Robert's dream is to get healthy again so he can travel the world. Let's continue doing everything we can to help him reach that dream.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the love, support, and kindness you continue to show. You are all deeply appreciated.
In my last update, we were incredibly hopeful and excited to share that Robert was doing better and no longer needed to be placed on the transplant list. Unfortunately, fast forward to January 2026, and we received devastating news — Robert has been diagnosed with HCC (liver cancer). The only curative treatment option now is a liver transplant.Later this month, he will undergo a procedure aimed at slowing the cancer while we work to get him back to UCLA to begin the process of being placed on an emergency transplant list.Robert is only 42 years old — a loving, kind-hearted, intelligent, and genuinely funny man who deserves many more healthy years ahead. This journey is emotionally and financially overwhelming, and any support during this time means more than we can express. If you’re able, please consider donating, sharing his story, or simply keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. Every share helps us move closer to giving Robert the long, healthy life he deserves.Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the love, support, and encouragement.Cancer truly sucks.
Update on Robert’s JourneyToday, Robert and Mom are off to UCLA to complete some final tests, which will be used to present his case to the liver transplant board. We’re hopeful that, in the coming weeks, Robert will be added to the transplant list. His medical team has been absolutely incredible, doing everything they can to help him get a new liver, and we’re deeply grateful for their care and dedication.Unfortunately, Robert’s condition has been taking a toll on him. Simple tasks now leave him completely drained of energy, and he’s had to go on disability as a result. Anyone who knows Robert knows that he’s not one to just sit around, so this new chapter of forced rest has been challenging for him. But, as always, he remains strong and determined, holding onto hope that this treatment will eventually help him get back on his feet. This month, Robert also has a follow-up appointment for his TIPS procedure. Sadly, it seems that adjustments may be necessary to the port they placed, as his liver is still producing too much fluid. While the road ahead remains uncertain, we are doing everything we can to support him, and we’re grateful for the ongoing care from his medical team.We cannot express enough gratitude to everyone who has donated, shared, and supported us so far. This will be a long, uphill journey, but we are not walking it alone. Please continue sharing Robert’s story. Every bit of support means the world to us, and we are staying hopeful that, with your help, we’ll have the miracle we’ve been praying for this holiday season.Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
