Help Sheila Haney Get Mobile Again and Gain Back Her Independence!

In April of 2023 Sheila started losing her ability to walk. She started out having to use a cane, then a walker and within a short month (May 2023) she became completely wheelchair bound. She had to quit her job as a Medical Lab Technician at a hospital due to not being able to drive to work and stand to do her job. Sheila went to and is still going to multiple doctors and specialist appointments, CT scans, MRI’s, etc.. and there is still no definite diagnosis for her. She will continue to go to those appointments and meetings to find out the reasons why she can not utilize her lower extremities. Some of these doctors’ appointments and specialists, are up to 3 hours away, one direction. She finds it difficult to get someone that can take her to these appointments and other places she needs to go. If she uses public transportation, she has to pay out of pocket and due to being on a very limited income, it places her behind in paying her bills. She is and has, to some extent, relearned how to do a lot of things without the usage of her legs, but there is one thing that she cannot do and that is drive a vehicle. This handicap has greatly affected her, not only in her ability to walk, but also her mental health and other aspects of her life. What would help her?…having the ability to drive herself to doctors’ appointments, grocery stores, church, therapy, etc… She has successfully completed a special driving course for wheelchair bound individuals and now she needs help in getting a wheelchair accessible/drivable vehicle. By having a specialized vehicle, it will give her more freedom and life.Sheila loves being involved in her church, and helping others. She has two dogs that are her emotional support dogs and are very important to her. She also spends extra time, weather permitting, with her stepdad (that is like a dad to her) at an assisted living facility that he lives at. He relies on Sheila a lot and sometimes she can not get to him due to poor weather and not having a wheelchair accessible vehicle.Sheila feels that by getting a handicapped vehicle it will help with her mental health and being more independent. She will be able to go places like the grocery store, church, doctor appointments, etc.. without burdening others. Sheila has always been a very independent person due to not having family members nearby or close to her. She feels by having this special vehicle she would be able to be more involved with friends and church activities. It would also benefit her in the way of being able to see her stepdad more often and if something should happen to him, she could be there for him. His health is very poor, and she is the only family he has. When Sheila lost her ability to walk, she went through (and still is) a lot of obstacles that she did not realize she would be going through. Her self-esteem and courage dropped. She lost her ability to work, risk of losing her home, must sell her call, sell things just to pay bills, rely on others to take her places, etc… Sheila has always taken pride in all that she has accomplished throughout her life (which has not been easy).Sheila is fundraising for a wheelchair accessible vehicle to gain her independence to get herself to and from appointments, church, grocery stores, visiting and helping others. She does not want to feel a burden to anyone anymore. She has paid for the handicapped vehicle driver’s test and successfully passed it. The next step is for Sheila to do fundraising to raise money for the vehicles for which she can drive. The vehicles ranges from approximately $68,000 to $75,000.Please donate to Help Hope Live in Sheila’s honor today and ask your friends and family to give too! We would love to plan some fundraisers in Sheila’s honor, too, so if you can help with that, please contact Cara Rinehart at [email protected]. Thank you so much for your support in making Sheila regain her independence and becoming mobile again!!!
