Family and friends of Jim Mitchell Jr. are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Jim has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses. My Brother Jim…My brother Jim is 64 years young and was living an enjoyable retirement until this past June 2024. Jim was diagnosed with heart failure 10 years ago, but he didn’t let that stop him from taking care of his lovely wife Amy. Amy is partially disabled and suffers from epilepsy and Jim was her support and caregiver until now. In June 2024 Jim suffered from two strokes and his heart failure became critical. Jim is now in the hospital and has been approved and listed for a heart transplant!Jim is a caregiver by nature. He cares for his loved ones and the environment passionately. In his free time, he enjoys gardening and landscaping in his modest backyard. Jimmy and Amy live in Mechanicsburg, PA via Pittsburgh and have 2 grown children. Jim has a large Pittsburgh family as well, with 3 siblings and many loved ones. Besides his family, Jim loves the Steelers, Nascar,Golf and the Weather. Jim recently said that he could not watch the Steeler game because his yelling would disturb the other patients and would not be good on his heart. As his baby sister, I can honestly say, that anytime I have needed my big brother he has been there for me and now it is my turn to rally support for him.Since his recent decline, Jim was transferred from Harrisburg to UPMC Presbyterian hospital, where he will remain pending his heart transplant. This hospitalization has been hard on Jim, he feels a loss of control over his body, depressed that he is not home to take care of his wife and live the life he loves. He has to maintain a very strict fluid restriction and diet as well as manage multiple IV lines and has an internal device that pumps his blood out to his body. Jim is tough but being away from home and those he loves has been difficult.Sadly, even though Jim has health insurance and receives disability and a small pension, the lifelong out of pocket costs of a heath transplant are staggering. Jim and his family are fundraising for the future costs of required antirejection mediations as well as the multitude of doctors’ visit and test copay’s he will need to have post-transplant.Jim hopes that after his heart transplant he can return to caring for those whom he loves and to his quiet, simple life. He looks forward to resuming his outdoor activities of gardening and caring for his wife. Jim has mentioned his desire to give back to the community that is helping him get through this tough time. Please find it in your heart to donate today to Help Hope Live in Jim’s honor and ask your family and friends to kindly donate also! We would love to plan some fundraisers, too, so if you have any idea’s or would like to help, please contact me or his children at [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and the entire Mitchell Family Thank YOU for your Generous support !!!!!!
