Help Hope Live for Tammy Konz

My name is Tammy Konz, I am Christian, dedicated wife married to Dean for 38 wonderful years, he has been in my corner and my rock throughout my life, loving mother to our two sons and devoted long-term employee. Our oldest Chris Konz and his wife Kirstin with our 3 beautiful granddaughters. Chris employed, with a successful career in law enforcement. Our youngest son Ryan Konz currently single, employed and successful metal fabrication business (Owner). I work full-time for the local school district in the technology department (28 years). Currently a High School Support Specialist for 18 years at a high school. One of my goals, I would love to be able to continue to share many more wonderful years together, to see our sons, families, grandchildren live their lives, to make memories with our grandchildren. I received life changes news 14 years ago; I was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia which is a rare blood disorder that effects the platelet count (Form of Leukemia).  Over the years it then had progressed to Polycythemia Vera which ultimately caused thickening of my blood, putting me at an extreme high risk for blood clots. March of 2023, I was admitted to the hospital with excessive body fluid retention, breathing difficulty, extreme pain to the abdomen. After multiple tests, blood work and MRI scans, I was diagnosed with non-alcohol stage four Cirrhosis of the liver. Which was caused by Budd-Chiari syndrome (which is a rare disorder that occurs when blood flow from the liver is obstructed or restricted). On November 11th 2024, I was accepted to be candidate for a liver transplant which I am currently waiting for a liver transplant. This has not been easy at times for myself and family emotionally and financially. God chooses our life path and I have faith, accepted. God will guide me, with prayers and support from family and friends, it has given me the strength and hope, to live for today and plan for tomorrow. I Tammy has chosen with family and friends to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because Help Hope Live assures fiscal accountability, of funds raised are tax deductible for contributors. Contributors can be sure donations will be used to pay or reimburse medical and related expenses.

Saturday, March 21, 2026 was transplant day. It had become very real and a roller coaster of emotions. Around 11:00 they took me down to prepare me for surgery. Surgery started around noon. Surgery time was indicated to be 7 to 11 hours. Actual surgery time was 4 1/2 hours. Was taken to ICU was expected to be there 5 to 7 days, was moved to PCU in 24 hours. spent 7 days in PCU to determine the levels of rejection medication. On March 31, 2026 everything seemed to be in line with my new Liver so they release me to go home. April 2nd, 2026 back to the hospital for liver enzymes increased significantly. prompting additional testing liver biopsy, and sonagram. April 7th 2026 had developer an internal bleed, so back into surgery. Symptoms hemoglobin dropped to 5.2, CT a confirmed internal bleeding. 2 pints of blood prior to emergency surgery and 5 pints of blood during surgery. Removed 4 liters of fluid from abdomen during surgery. I also had 4 rounds of plasma exchange over a coarse of 10 days. Was released to go home on April 11th, 2026. April 16th, 2026 back in the hospital due to liver enzymes significantly increased. Did liver biopsy and ultrasound. It was liver rejection. Biopsy and ultrasound came back ok. So the reason enzymes are increasing due to a infection. So released to go home on April 20th, 2026. May 4th, 2026 started infection medication. Will have blood work done twice a week and see surgeon once a week. May 6th, 2026 I am home and recovering. Continuing to monitor medication levels and change dosage if needed. Also developed a hemoglobin on my incision so have been doing wound care on that. It’s been a long road with ups and downs. But I am so blessed to Methodist hospital doctors, surgeons and nurses. Donor, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors for all the support and prayers. And most of all my husband Dean for being in my corner and being the best caregiver and most of all the best husband.I have a second chance at life and I am so grateful for that. And thank you for your continuing support and donations. Love Tammy and family.

March 18th, 2026 at 2:00 AM received a call from Methodist Hospital. The phone call was regarding my INR. It was at 9.0 which is critical the reason it’s critical because it measures the velocity of the blood and needed to get to the hospital immediately. The thing about it is haven’t been on warfarin for over a week and my INR was still climbing. So when we go to the hospital the checked my INR again it had gone up to 10.0. So they admitted me to the hospital to work on getting my INR down. After bloodwork, my MELD score was 32 so it moved me up on the transplant list. So at this time, they started running multiple test tons of blood work., x-rays, bacteria test, and many other test. On Thursday, March 19th 2026 A liver offer was indicated but I was second in line. The first recipient accepted the offer.. On Friday, March 20, 2026 The plan of treatment was to do a paracentesis in the morning and since my INR was back down to a manageable level. They were going to release me to go home at lunch time. Then it happen as we were getting ready to be discharged, there was a transplant surgeon and two other transplant team members standing at the hospital room door and asked me if I really wanted to go home because they have a liver for me and I was first in line . “My comment was are you kidding me”
