Kim’s family and friends are coming together to raise funds for her urgent medical needs. Kim is a wife, mother of three, and proud grandmother who is eagerly looking forward to seeing her daughter walk down the aisle at her upcoming wedding.
She is battling an aggressive form of lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Her health rapidly declined after a pneumonia diagnosis in August, progressing from needing supplemental oxygen in September to requiring advanced life support. By December, she was hospitalized, placed on hi-flow oxygen, and soon needed mechanical ventilation. Her condition advanced further, necessitating VV ECMO and now VVA ECMO. A lung transplant is Kim’s only chance for survival.
The transplant process will bring lifelong medical expenses, including costly anti-rejection medications. Adding to the challenge, Kim has been unable to work since September, and her husband has been limited in his ability to work due to an injury requiring surgery. These circumstances have created a severe financial strain.
We are humbly asking for your prayers during this incredibly difficult time. If you are able, we would also be deeply grateful for any financial gift you can provide. To help alleviate this burden, we are partnering with Help Hope Live, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations made through Help Hope Live are tax-deductible and will go directly toward medical expenses, insurance costs, and expenses related to Kim’s illness.Your support can make a life-changing difference for Kim and her family. Please consider contributing and sharing her story to help us reach our goal. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
UPDATE: Kim is now HOME! On the day of her son and grandson’s birthday, December 20, Kim received news of a potential lung donor, and the following day, she was given the gift of new lungs. She required ventilator support, which was eventually weaned, and she is now breathing on her own without supplemental oxygen. Her dedication to physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy, and the entire medical team made it possible for Kim to get strong enough to walk, talk and breathe on her own. She is now discharged home where continues with her therapies. Although she is doing incredibly well, she now faces the long road of rebuilding her strength and managing the challenges that come with life post-transplant. She follows a very specific and intensive medication regimen, undergoes countless tests and lab work, and attends frequent follow-up appointments. Despite these hurdles, Kim continues to face her recovery with unwavering grace and strength.Moving forward, Kim and her family will still encounter financial burdens stemming from her critical illness and the ongoing costs of post-transplant care. As she continues to heal, Kim remains unable to work, and her husband is also out of work due to an injury. Your prayers and support are deeply appreciated. If you feel led to do so, a tax-deductible financial gift would make a meaningful impact and help ease the financial strain during this challenging time. Thank you for standing beside Kim and her family as they embark on this new chapter in her healing journey.
