Howard Peavey is a 65-year-old field technician for Earthscope Consortium living in Socorro, New Mexico. He has enjoyed living in the beauty and open spaces of the Southwest for most of his life. Field work has allowed him to get out and see many places, until he could no longer do so due to a weakened heart. His heart is now too weak for repair, and he is currently waiting for a heart transplant.
Howard has been fascinated with how things work all his life and has enjoyed doing his own research and filling his mind with all sorts of interesting things. Creating, monitoring and repairing seismic stations for many years is only one of the long list of things he has accomplished. His hope is that the work he does with the seismic stations will help along the research of earthquakes and ultimately help us learn to be better prepared.
Howard’s heart has been struggling for the past couple of years. Recently, he has been so weak that he can barely make it through a day at the laboratory job his company gave him. He longs to get back out into the field. He also feels it is not time to leave his only remaining biological family members, his brother and his family, and wishes for more time with them.
Howard has had to relocate to Phoenix, AZ while he awaits transplant. He will also need to stay in Phoenix for 12 weeks upon release from the hospital after transplant in order for his care team to monitor him. As you can imagine, there are many costs associated with this, including (but not limited to) transportation and living costs for his caregivers who are volunteering their time after surgery; copays; anything medically related not covered by insurance.
Howard hopes to have the stamina to get back into the field and help repair seismic stations so Earthscope can continue their research. He also hopes to be able to continue to be there for his family and friends for many more years. Howard has never hesitated to “give the shirt off his back” for those he cares for. He is absolutely selfless and has taken care of other people all his life. It’s time for him to get some of that love back. Please consider donating to Help Hope Live in Howard’s honor today, and ask friends and family, too!
You can help Howard fulfill his purpose and get back to his life!
