In September of 2017 Lori was diagnosed with NASH (Non-alcoholic Cirrhosis of the Liver). Since that time, she had regular CAT scans to monitor the disease. In September of 2023 she had a questionable result, so repeated the scan in November and in December of 2023 was diagnosed with liver cancer. The tumor was in a bad location to be removed surgically so she underwent Y90 treatment that implanted radiation particles directly into the tumor via her artery. Fortunately, the treatment was able to irradicate the tumor so there is no more cancer detected in the liver. However, due to the nature of the disease, it is extremely likely that the cancer will recur at some point. Her oncologist met with the tumor board and during a discussion of her case, it was recommended that a liver transplant option be explored. In October of 2024, she underwent two days’ worth of medicals tests and procedures and it was determined that she was a good candidate for a liver transplant. Her name went on a list and for the first six months she was very low on the list and unlikely to qualify for a liver. But in April, due to the cancer, she will move up on the list and be in line for a liver. While the wait time on the list is unknown, we will would to make this waiting time as stress free as possible.
The majority of the cost of the transplant will be covered by insurance, but there still will be a lot of out-of-pocket costs associated with this procedure. The transplant will take place in Denver, but she and John plan to move to Wichita, KS as soon as they sell their house. She will need to stay in Denver for about 30 days following the procedure so will incur costs for housing, meals, and transportation as well as incidentals. We are hoping to raise $5000 to assist with these costs. Only costs associated with the transplant surgery will be reimbursed by this medical fund. Even if you are unable to assist financially, prayers are requested for John and Lori during this time.
Thank you for your consideration and the prayers, love and encouragement that many of you have already so freely given.
Love you both very much and will be praying for you and the family.
