Help Hope Live for Corey Ruffin

Family and friends of Corey Ruffin are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Corey has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Hello, my name is Bishop Corey Ruffin Sr., and I am a 53-year-old heart transplant recipient from the UCSD Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center in San Diego, California. Seven years ago, I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition that caused my heart to enlarge to dangerous levels. Over time, my health deteriorated to the point where I was fainting simply from standing up. My only hope for survival was a heart transplant, which took place on March 7, 2025. By God’s grace, the surgery was a success, and just three days later, I was out of the ICU. While my recovery is progressing steadily, I now face another challenge: after my upcoming biopsy on March 17, 2025, I will need to relocate to San Diego for extensive rehabilitation. The doctors have recommended that I stay in the area for the next 3-6 months, as I will need regular medical appointments and ongoing care. I currently live in Downey, California, which is a two-hour drive from the hospital, and I will need to find housing in San Diego during my recovery. This move will place a significant financial strain on my family. My wife will be on FMLA to care for me, and my resources will be stretched thin. We will need to cover the expenses of living in San Diego while maintaining our home back in Downey. I humbly ask for your help during this difficult time. Any assistance you can provide would make a world of difference as we navigate this journey of recovery and healing. Thank you for your kindness and support.

I’m had a positive and successful week of recovery. I had a bit of a bump in the road due to a sinus infection but I’m feeling much better now.
