Family and friends of Xavier Baker are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Illness. Xavier has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.
I never imagined I’d be writing something like this, but life has a way of throwing curveballs you can’t prepare for.
Recently, I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (RRMS), a chronic and unpredictable disease that affects the central nervous system. In simple terms, my immune system is attacking my body — and my body is fighting back, every single day.
Some days, I wake up feeling almost normal. Other days, I struggle to walk, focus, or even hold a conversation without fatigue crashing over me like a wave. The hardest part isn’t just the physical toll — it’s the uncertainty. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, and that fear is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
This diagnosis has changed everything. It’s made everyday tasks more difficult, affected my ability to work consistently, and forced me to navigate a medical system that is overwhelming, expensive, and not built for people in crisis.
I’m reaching out because I need help. I’ve started this fundraiser with a goal of raising $5,500 to cover essential costs related to my treatment and daily living — things like medication, doctor visits, mobility aids, and keeping a roof over my head while I regain some stability.
Asking for help is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But MS has taught me that strength isn’t always about powering through — sometimes it’s about having the courage to lean on others.
If you’re able to give, please know that every donation, no matter the amount, brings me closer to a more manageable life. And if you’re not in a place to give, sharing this campaign means the world to me too.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for caring. And thank you — truly — for helping me hold onto hope.
With gratitude and love,
