Family and friends of Theresa Walton are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant. Theresa has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.
Theresa is Finally in Rehab!!After almost 3 weeks Theresa was finally transferred to inpatient rehab in Winter Park Monday afternoon!! She is going to have physical and occupational therapy while she is here. They are working with her to help her become independent again. She will be having 3 - 4 hours of therapy everyday. Today they are evaluating her to see what she can and cannot do and what they need to address.Yesterday one of her doctors removed a couple of the staples and that opened the wound. He stuffed it and applied a bandage. Today they decided to put a wound vac on her to help with the ascites leaking from the where the staples were. This way the wound will be able to heal faster. The staff here has been great.
Theresa seems to be doing better. The pain got her yesterday. Maybe in a way that’s a good thing because I know she is coming back. Of course, they gave her pain meds. They are feeding her through the tube in her nose until they do the swallow test. They are having PT come in and start working with her. Music Therapy came in yesterday. She enjoyed that. She’s in a chair this morning!
They were finally able to extubate Theresa late yesterday afternoon. She is being fed through a NG tube today because she hasn’t received any nutrition in almost 2 weeks. She is still in ICU. PLEASE PRAY FOR THERESA!!
They had to intubate Theresa again this morning. They are doing all kinds of tests to find out what happened. She was fine one minute and having a hard time breathing the next. Please pray!!
Theresa has her new liver!!!!! Below are updates from the last couple days: 6/6/25Just got back to room. (1:45 am on June 7) Got to see Theresa. Still has tube in throat but she opened her eyes and tried to raise her head. Tried to talk. And there is a couch so family can stay. God is so good!! Answered prayers!!6/7/25Theresa is doing pretty good. She got the breathing tube out this morning and was sitting in a chair all afternoon. She’s just keeps saying “I’m thirsty!” She was given water after the doctor came in. They are happy with her progress. Next few days are crucial. Still in ICU.Thanks for all your prayers. Now is such a crucial time. I am optimistic but scared to. I look at her blood test results and they are all over the place. And her sugar is up. She is getting insulin 5 times a day! Never has she ever been diabetic. 6/8/25Theresa is getting transferred to the transplant floor. She no longer needs to be in ICU. Just waiting on the IV team too put in another IV so she can get the ones out of her neck. She just ordered real food for supper!! She still has a such a long way to go. But we will see her through. Please keep our family in your prayers. We will be here for several more weeks because she will need to go to clinic starting 3 times a week and going down to once a week while they stabilize her on the non-rejection drugs. We are staying at the Bartch Transplant House until she only has to go to clinic once a week. Then we will be able to go home and return here once a week. Any help that you can give us during this time will be very helpful. The cost of the Transplant House is very reasonable but gets expensive after being here for over a month. Thank you and please continue to pray for Theresa's recovery.
Theresa is officially on the top of the transplant list!! There may be a liver available. We will know more by tomorrow. I will update as soon as we know. Pray that this liver is the one for her.
Theresa has been placed on the transplant list! Praise God! Thank you for your prayers. They made this happen. She also still has the infection in the ascites fluid. Doctors are concerned and have said she needs to stay on the antibiotics until she receives her new liver. Doctors have said that she will need to stay in the hospital until then.I am her primary caretaker and only person available to stay with her. The cost of lodging to be nearby for an extended period of time will be cost prohibitive without your help!Anything you are able to do, however small you feel it is, will be a tremendous help.Thank you for anything you can do.Blessings,Trina, Theresa’s mom
