Hi, I’m Joshua Camacho, a Type 1 diabetic since 2004, diagnosed at the start of my high school years. I’ve always tackled life’s challenges head-on, but in December 2022, stage 4 kidney failure and renal disease changed everything. Emergency surgery for a chest port and dialysis three times a week became my new normal. That first year was brutal—I could no longer drive, work out, or hit the slopes snowboarding, passions that kept me grounded. Most heartbreakingly, I’ve missed traveling to D.C. to see my daughter, a joy now out of reach. Frequent hospital stays for hyperkalemia, DKA, multiple surgeries, and endless pills stalled my life, while my family bore the pain and fear of watching me fight, sacrificing their own peace to support me through countless appointments and sleepless nights.
Now, I’m working with Mayo Clinic in Phoenix to join the transplant list for a dual kidney-pancreas transplant. My mobility is improving, my A1C is down, and I’m close to approval—hope is on the horizon. This Help Hope Live campaign will help cover copays, transplant surgery, transportation, housing, and medications. With my dialysis time since 2022 counting toward the two-to-three-year waitlist, I’m optimistic for a transplant soon. Your support will help me return to driving, snowboarding, and hugging my daughter in D.C. Thank you for giving me and my family a chance at a brighter, healthier future.
Support Josh as he is patiently waiting for his new kidney & pancreas.
Give and it will be given pressed down shaken and running over!
Love you Josh
