Supporting Beth’s advocacy for mental health, disability inclusion, and the Miss Amazing community.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Beth Carey has spent her life turning personal challenges into purpose.
As a person with autism who has navigated complex trauma, anxiety, and sensory overload, Beth understands how isolating the world can sometimes feel for people with disabilities. For many years she quietly fought through those challenges while trying to find her place and her voice.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, those struggles intensified. Symptoms of trauma returned, including nightmares, flashbacks, and periods of situational mutism that made communication extremely difficult. It was one of the hardest periods of Beth’s life.
But Beth refused to stay there.
Instead, she chose to transform her lived experience into advocacy and service to others.
Today, Beth is a dedicated mental health and disability advocate who works to improve access, inclusion, and understanding for people with disabilities. She volunteers in peer support programs, speaks publicly about mental health and neurodiversity, and works to create communities where people feel seen, supported, and valued.
Beth also participates in Miss Amazing Pageant, a program that celebrates the talents and leadership of girls and women with disabilities. Through this platform, she hopes to inspire others to believe that their differences are strengths and that their voices matter.
But to continue this work safely and sustainably, Beth needs additional support.
Why Beth Needs a Service Dog
Beth has been accepted into a specialized service dog program to receive a certified medical alert and psychiatric service dog.
This highly trained service dog will help mitigate the impact of Beth’s disabilities by performing critical tasks such as:
• Interrupting panic attacks and trauma responses
• Providing deep pressure therapy to help regulate her nervous system
• Carrying emergency medication
• Assisting during overwhelming sensory situations
• Helping Beth stay grounded and safe in public spaces
For Beth, this service dog is not a luxury—it is a medical support that will allow her to travel, advocate, speak publicly, and continue supporting others in her community.
Her medical provider has recommended this support, and she has been officially approved by the trusted training organization Independence Through Teamwork.
How You Can Help
Beth’s family and friends are raising funds through the nonprofit Help Hope Live to help cover the uninsured medical expenses associated with obtaining and training her service dog.
Training a service dog to perform complex medical and psychiatric support tasks takes 12–18 months and includes specialized training, boarding, veterinary care, and ongoing task development.
Donations made through Help Hope Live are tax-deductible and are used only for verified medical and related expenses.
Your support will help Beth gain a life-changing partner who will allow her to:
• Continue advocating for disability inclusion
• Support others navigating mental health challenges
• Participate in leadership opportunities like Miss Amazing
• Live and work with greater safety, independence, and confidence
Every donation—no matter the size—brings Beth one step closer to receiving the service dog that will help her continue making a difference.
If your employer offers matching gifts, please consider submitting a matching request to double your impact.
Thank you for believing in Beth and being part of this journey.

✨ Campaign Update: Miss Amazing! ✨I’m excited to share that I recently participated and won in the Miss Amazing Pageant, an incredible program that celebrates the talents, leadership, and confidence of girls and women with disabilities.Being part of Miss Amazing was such a meaningful experience. It reminded me how powerful it is when people with disabilities are given space to shine, share their stories, and inspire others. Programs like this help break down barriers and show the world what inclusion truly looks like.As I continue this journey, your support through my Help Hope Live campaign is making a real difference. Every share, donation, and word of encouragement helps me move closer to greater independence and the tools I need to keep advocating for accessibility and inclusion.Thank you for being part of my community and cheering me on! 💙♾️
Update: My parents were visiting SIU this month and got to meet some of the service dogs in training with S.I.T. and the person managing my application. I'm a little jealous, but so excited they got to meet part of the team at S.I.T. working with my service dog in person!
