This is Brandi Moder, my beautiful twenty-one-old daughter and single mother of three-year-old Isabella. When Brandi was only fourteen-years-old, she was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Brandi’s diabetes was well controlled until three years ago when she suffered adrenal failure as a result of treatment she was receiving for degenerative disk disease. Due to her adrenal failure, Brandi’s body is no longer able to properly absorb her insulin injections and her diabetes has become uncontrollable. Brandi is now what is known as a “brittle-diabetic.”
Brandi’s family and friends originally joined HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF) in 2006 to raise money for a debilitating spinal disease; however, since then her health has steadily declined. Brandi’s condition has deteriorated at an alarming rate and in August 2011 her doctors told her she needs a pancreas islet cell transplant to live. Brandi lives in Barnhart, MO and will receive her treatment and transplant at the University of Miami Hospital in Florida.
This islet cell transplant is not covered by Brandi’s insurance. There is no way she can finance the procedure by herself. She will also have other out-of-pocket expenses related to the transplant, including: transportation and relocation at the time of transplant, follow-up visits, and the costly medications she will have to take for the rest of her life.
To ease this financial burden, a fundraising campaign in Brandi’s honor has been established with HelpHOPELive (formerly NTAF), a nonprofit organization that has been assisting the transplant community for nearly 30 years. All donations are tax deductible, are held by HelpHOPELive in the Midwest/West Islet Cell Transplant Fund, and are administered by HelpHOPELive for transplant-related expenses only. Your contribution would be greatly appreciated.Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Tanya Moder

My darling daughter,

You have grown into such an amazing woman, even though you've faced so many obstacles and yet you never give up. Your strength and spirit have been such an inspiration to me and so many others.

Fear not, you WILL get this transplant and your body will finally be able to heal. You will feel so much better and will get to live a long and happy life.

Have faith in Dr. Ricordi, have faith in me, and have faith in God. You have so many people who love and care for you. It’s going to get better now, I absolutely believe that with my whole heart.

I love you pumpkin head.
