Hi everyone, thanks for being here for Ross. Ross is a 67-year-old retired library consultant who supported primarily rural communities. Until very recently, he was enjoying his golden years. On July 3rd, he was rushed to a Phoenix hospital with a severe foot infection where it was decided that a below the knee amputation needed to be performed immediately.
Ross loves to explore as he enjoys understanding history, learning new cultures and meeting people. He likes to share cheers and goodwill wherever he visits. Ross loves to walk, whether it is in his local neighborhood or somewhere discovering new places. A normal year will have him logging about 1400 miles as he enjoys being outside walking through cities, or anywhere in nature.
Since the amputation, Ross has been struggling with any movement as he is very weak and has erratic side issues with his blood pressure and heart. Right now, he is limited to a wheelchair which you can imagine is frustrating as two months ago he was averaging about a 100 miles/month walking.
Ross is fundraising for several critical non-covered items since June and over the next six months. He will need to be in a group home for several months to facilitate recovery and will require physical and occupational therapy as well as home health services. There are also four new medications he will take daily. Then there is the matter of the prosthesis and all the training that goes with it. Some of this is covered by insurance, most of it is not as he lived abroad.
Ross is hopeful that the ongoing treatment plan will allow him to get back to his independent living and his walking and exploring days. It is going to take some time but with your help, Ross is sure he can reach his goals.
Family and friends of Ross Callender are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Catastrophic Illness. Ross has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and will only be used to cover medical and related expenses.

Thank you for your support.
I have been doing some updates on Facebook but realize now some of you don't see them and I apologize for that. Here is my latest update. Short version things are going well, thanks to your support. UPDATE: Been a while since I did an update, have been quite busy lately.Medical news: Not much to report on, surgical scars still healing and at a very slow rate if I may say so. I think I have actually entered the phase where the mental game is tougher than the physical game. I suspect it will be a minimum of 2 months and my gut says 4 months before I am ready for a prosthetic fitting (I am a slow healer) and being patient is a big mental challenge.Living news: Will be signing a lease on apartment tomorrow. Pleased in how far I have come since July. The 2 bedroom 55+apartment will be the nicest I have ever lived in and also the most expensive ever had. But there is a gym, hair salon, library, theater room, card room, community kitchen on the first floor with organized activies so hopefully will find some cribbage players, lol. Also, I put in ADA application to use paratransit buses to get around which at first was just fine but I think I was also shocked because it hit me hard, that yes, I am disabled and will live rest of my life with the disability and mobility challenges. Don't get me wrong, I will meet and beat those challenges but it is my life now and sometimes can be depressing as all get out. I am also learning that no matter how much I exercise and get stronger everyday, I can always exercise more. I swear I don't know how to watch TV anymore without doing knee tightening exercises on the couch and Mr. Stumpy is pretty much sore all the time. Just Tuesday, I did 2 standing exercises to see strength of good right leg, first for 6 minutes with stretching exercise, later in the day did 10 minutes with no exercise just standing with walker. Now 10 minutes doesn't sound like a lot but on one leg was good for me.I hope this finds you all well and my continued thanks for all your financial support and the cards and letters of support. Starting later next week my new address will be 307 Hawes Road #220Mesa, AZ 85208Would love to hear from you.Respect, Ross
