Please help my son with a new life of hope
Tyler Ray was on his motorcycle getting onto a highway with friends following in a car. His motorcycle had a death wobble and he lost control and went into the left guard rail, where his left foot was torn off from the contact. He ended up in the middle of the left lane while his motorcycle slid farther down into the right lane. His friends stopped behind his motorcycle, thinking that’s where he was, and were about to get out to check on him, when a pickup truck went around on the left and ran him over and dragged him further down the entrance ramp.
He had his helmet on, which has significant damage, and riding gloves. The hit from the pickup broke his right orbital eye socket, fractured his skull behind his right ear and gave him a concussion.
He lost a lot of blood at the scene. Local Police and EMT’s got him to the ER quickly. The ER Team gave him 8 units of blood and 2 units of Plasma and got him on board a life flight. The Hospital team immediately evaluated him as a 3T, meaning he was comatose and near brain dead. They got him in emergency surgery and cleaned up his amputation and various other lacerations and road rash areas and placed him in the Surgical ICU Unit. He was assigned 7 TEAMS of Doctors and given round the clock care.
This was an incredibly traumatic accident.
We are in need LOTS of help with our upcoming expenses for this accident and modifications for our home to accommodate Tyler after his amputation. He had 4 surgeries and spent a lot of time in the Hospital and a Rehabilitation Hospital. We have been told that over his lifetime, replacement prosthetics and healthcare for his injuries will be in the Millions. It’s mind blowing.
Family and friends are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to in honor of Tyler Ray to fund uninsured/underinsured medical expenses associated with Tyler’s Catastrophic Injury. We have chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live in part because donations are tax deductible for contributors and funds raised in honor of Tyler can ONLY be used to cover verified medical and related expenses.

Friday May 29th 9:30am Tyborg Update:Not much action happening anymore with healing, other than getting more mobile! He is adjusting to the Prosthetic very well.As for his mental state, I believe he is improving as he has been on the hunt for a new job/career. We won't go into details on his previous job and the ending and his disappointment in how things went. We WILL say, HE FOUND A NEW CALLING! He's super excited as are we!He will start June 15th at CALO in Lake Ozark as a Behavioral Health Associate. He will be helping Pre-Teen Boys that are struggling with life issues. With Tyler's demeanor and outlook on life, I truly think he's going to do very well and find this very rewarding for himself.Cindy has also changed jobs and is working at the Osage Beach Super Wal-Mart. Not the best hours, but it's a good place and full-time. We needed that extra!! She seems to be enjoying being back in the workforce again herself.Thank you again to all our friends & family for the prayers, love and support you all keep giving. It means so much to us all!!

Sunday April 19th 12:00pm Tyborg Update:Tyborg and I got his Honda S2000 out of storage today!! Poor thing needed a jump and really needs washed. The cool part is, HE drove it home!! It’s a manual!! Never stalled it once!! It quit a few times as the battery was so dead and it hasn’t been run for over 4 months, but he had no problems using the clutch! He did say he needs practice to learn the new feeling, but he did amazing!!He is also still trying to develop his stamina to wearing his leg. It’s a slow process! He needs it adjusted yet again and has appointments for that this week. He is looking forward to getting back to work to see his friends.As for Cindy, she no longer works at the Daycare. She got a full-time position with the Osage Beach Walmart. Not the greatest shift, but if she proves herself, as I know she will, she may be able to get a better one in 5-6 months. At least it’s a full time position now!!

Thursday February 26th 7:00pm Tyborg Update:Yeah, it’s been a while, but things have been slow and not too much to update.He did ONE PT session in Eldon with the Lake Regional Therapist January 7th who asked him, why are you here? To which he said, because I was told I needed to be here. Needless to say, she signed him off and said if he needs anything, call her, but join a gym and start working out and get back to life. She said to keep at it slowly until he gets his tolerance built up, but he doesn’t need anyone’s help. Surprise! So we all toured some gyms and picked one and joined as a family.Tyborg spent most of January trying to use his prosthetic as much as possible, but being careful not to get to the point of having blisters or sores to get infected. We had enough with that stuff!Originally, when we received the first prosthetic, we were told that he would need a new one in about 6-8 months as his stump would shrink and mold itself to the “socket”, the cup that his calf fits down into. The first socket was a “suction” fit, meaning his leg was literally creating a suction to hold it on. It worked great, but made an awkward sound when he was walking. Basically, calf farts. And it was HOT and his calf got very sweaty and it’s still WINTER for crying out loud. He had to put on stump socks in layers as his stump was shrinking and the layers were needed to keep it fitting properly. We just wrote it off as this is the new normal for him though and he would get used to it.Tyborg has been going out and visiting friends at the Tatoo parlor and around town.Fast forward just 6 weeks and the Prosthetist came by for a checkup and told Tyler he was already shrunk enough that he required a new socket. He was wearing 17 layers of socks already!! He started with TWO. So the Prosthetist took a new mold of his smaller stump and discussed a different form of attachment he thought Tyborg might like called a Pin Lock. Basically, he pulls on a silicone sleeve that has a notched pin at the bottom (3rd photo – note the sleeve with the pin is upside down in the socket just show I could take the photo of the pin ) that ratchets down in to the bottom of the socket to hold it on. There’s no more outer sleeve that needs to roll up the socket onto his calf. Tyborg thought it sounded pretty good, so he asked for that one. That was two weeks ago. Tuesday the 24th, his new socket arrived and he got to try it on. He LOVES this new one! It fits much better. It’s MUCH more comfortable to him. It’s lighter. And it doesn’t FART!Now, we continue the working out and walking and building up the stamina! We’ve had a couple of discussions about returning to work. Tyborg misses his friends a lot, but I think he enjoys his dark man cave and computer games and being served like a king as well. Who wouldn’t! I sure can’t blame him!! But we’re going to start pushing him to see about getting back to work. He may not be able to work full shifts to start, but he’ll never build up the stamina if he doesn’t get back to life again.In other news. During all that time, Cindy has managed to find a job to get back to a more normal life again since mom passed and Tyler is more self-sufficient. She is currently working at a Day Care Facility in Osage Beach part-time. Her first week she managed to bring home, we believe, rotavirus. We’ve been through this before when the boys were very young. I managed to bring home a sinus infection. Then one of us, probably me, brought home either the flu or Covid. It’s been a ROUGH 3 weeks, but we’re still here and kickin’ it!Friends, again, if you would please, spread our fund raising site around again. We have depleted all the funds that were raised and then some. We’re still hoping there’s some out there that can help as we had to buy this 2nd socket and there will be a third coming again quite soon to pay for, plus we’re still getting hospital, EMS and Clinic bills!!

Tuesday December 23rd 1:00pm Tyborg Update:Dropped him off at Rusk Rehabilitation Hospital last Tuesday for his gait training. He was not thrilled after we left. They had him doing 2-2 1/2 hour therapy sessions, then just sitting in a room shared with an older man recovering from a stroke. He was bored! The food was not the best. And the "Therapy" was just walking around which he was doing just fine. He needed NO help at all. So, Cindy and Tyborg began the Quest for Freedom on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. After NUMBEROUS phone calls and lots of arguing, they relented to signing him off on Saturday afternoon on the condition that he do Outpatient PT. We told them no problem, but we want it at Lake Regional PT in Eldon. So we picked him up Saturday at 2pm and brought him home.He's doing fantastic! The Prosthetist did make a couple of adjustments that made it better while he was at Rusk. Then he had another follow-up yesterday in Columbia to which they made another adjustment and trimmed some off the back of the calf and it's better yet. We're still waiting to schedule the Outpatient PT, but hopefully they'll get that going soon.As for Tyborg's new girlfriend, they finally got introduced Saturday afternoon! December 16th 4:45pm Tyborg Update:Tyborg has arrived at Rusk Rehabilitation Hospital in Columbia and visitors are welcomed! He will be BORED when not doing therapy. Just text him or one of us and we can let you know his schedule and room. He’s only a couple doors down from his first stay!Tyborg did very well! Drs both say 10-12 days in Rusk. OT & PT, who did strength evaluations and watched him walk and do the stairs say he’ll be out within 7 days.Sadly, his new girlfriend had been delayed and arrived while we were in Columbia, but she’ll be waiting, lighting his way home in the front window. Anxiously awaiting his love! ( FYI - It's a "Chirstmas Story" leg lamp )

Friday December 12, 2025 2:30pm Tyler Ray UPDATE:Mom's Estate Sale is done! The house is about empty!! The sale went, ok. Not as good as we'd hoped, but considering the time of year and the weather, not horrible. This weekend I will prep for an empty winter house. We're not sure when the Mortgage Company will want to take possession. On the Eldon home front, we're still fixing and reorganizing things as we try to accommodate Tyborg better. I still have some handicapped grab bars to install in the bathroom for him. We've had the surround in our shower replaced as it was VERY old and wouldn't stand-up to supporting anything let alone Tyborg. The new shower head and handheld sprayer are fantastic. We cleared him his own space in the bath closet and gave him a couple drawers in the bathroom vanity also. His room is pretty well done and working well for him also. He now has 2 walkers. An indoor only and his outdoor/traveling walker. He's using the walker more and more instead of the wheelchair. He's still strong!The BIG news, Tyborg got his leg!! We picked it up at his final fitting yesterday! He can walk in it, but he still is going back to Rusk for 7-14 days starting next Tuesday for "gait" training. Prosthetic gait training is physical therapy to teach amputees how to walk confidently and efficiently with a prosthesis, focusing on balance, weight shifting, and controlled movement, progressing from parallel bars to varied terrains, to master steps, stairs, and daily activities, reducing energy use and fall risk. Key steps include weight distribution, building stability, strengthening muscles (especially core and sound leg), learning to sit/stand, and practicing obstacle navigation, all guided by a PT to build trust and natural control.Tyborg did kind of upset me when we got back to the house last night. He would NOT let me put a light and lampshade on his leg and display it in the front window! I mean, come on, it's a major step/award in his journey, right?!?

Wednesday November 19, 2025 09:15am Tyler Ray UPDATE: Last weekend we finally got Tyler & Cindy moved into our Eldon home! Cindy is BACK after FIVE long years caring for mom. We completely reorganized the house and took A LOT of stuff we no longer, and probably would never, use to mom's for the Estate Sale that McCorkle Estate Sales will be running for us soon. I will post photos and date once everything is set in stone. Should be in December though. LOTS of high end furniture at mom's will be going super cheap. We just have nowhere to store or way to sell ourselves as quickly and easily, so, our loss will be everyone's gains. Tyler saw Dr. Jones at Rusk yesterday. He believes his stump has healed enough to begin the Prosthetic process. We chose Horizon Orthotics and Prosthetics Experience (H.O.P.E.) in Columbia, MO to take care of him. He got his leg molded and they are working on his leg now. Hopefully they'll have it ready in 1-2 weeks. They will be in our area seeing other patients then, so they will see us here to give it a trial fitting. Once they get the initial fit right, Tyler will return to Rusk Rehab for a 1-2 week "Gait" training period. He will stay at Rusk and do PT every day to learn how to get around and they will also be able to get adjustments done to be sure everything fits correct to give him the best shot at getting back to his normal life! We are EXCITED that things are finally getting good for him. His pain levels have dropped SIGNIFICANTLY. We are weaning him off the last of the pain medications. We've cleared him to drive again. NOT a motorcycle though!! 🙂 But he can take his truck and visit friends or work again and just get out!! He needs that independence again. Life is finally beginning to even out to a new normal for all of us! Please continue to keep Tyborg in your thoughts and Prayers. It's not over yet, but looking up! November 10, 2025 6:30pm Tyler Ray update:Tyler had an awesome group of visitors come by on Halloween for a little partay! I wish I could’ve joined the fun!We THINK we’re over the infection finally. He had his final Wound Care Clinic visit last Thursday and wounds were finally dried up and scabbed over.Our next appointment at Rusk will be Tuesday the 18th and we’re hopeful that Dr Jones will give us the blessing to start the prosthetic process. Tyborg will get his leg cast so they can make a “socket” and then build the leg and foot for him.Leg #1 is forecasted to last about 12-18 months. His leg will develop a new shape during this time due to bearing weight again. Then we’ll do another cast and get leg #2, which is forecast to last 18-24 months as his leg develops into its final shape and condition. After that, legs are forecast to last 5-7 years depending on how rough he is on it. And each will cost $7,000 to $10,000 for basic models. Luckily he’s not an athlete as theirs can be $70,000 to $80,000!!Pain levels have dropped significantly, but once or twice a day he has a spell of significant pain. He doesn’t show the withdrawal symptoms he had anymore either. His sight is still improving as well. We’re hopeful his sight returns completely to normal!On our personal side, we’re still getting things ready for Tyborg to move in with us in Eldon after an estate sale and closing out mom’s finals. We’re mostly done, but still reorganizing to make it as comfortable and useable as possible for him. We should have a plumber working on a new shower head to make it more functional for him. I’m adding some hand holds in places, etc. We’re hoping the estate sale happens in early to mid December. If not, it will be January. All of which really suck for drawing a good crowd. I will announce on here when a date finally gets set. I will post some photos of items too. Beautiful high end furniture!! Sunday October 19th 7:00 pm Tyler Ray update:Several appointments with Lake Regional Wound Care clinic & Dr. Lockhert, we believe we have kicked the infection out! We still have 1 or 2 more wound care visits to go, but we are again progressing towards a prosthetic!!We’ve also had some visits with Dr. Berlener Chiropractic in Eldon for some much needed neck, back and hip realignment. Much less pain and stiffness now.Tyler still seems to be fighting withdrawal like symptoms, but improving slowly. He had been on some heavy drugs and did have some serious brain injury, both of which can somewhat rewire a brain. It will take more time for him to get back to himself, but he’s doing amazingly well! He’s a damn tough kid. Lucky he takes after his mother!!Tyler is venturing out more with Cindy at times, but he would still LOVE some friends to visit! Tevin, a buddy from Eldon and fellow biker, stopped by with his girlfriend. Tyler enjoyed that time a lot! We could tell as his spirits were much better for a few days after!We have 2 appointments Tuesday and another 2 Wednesday in Columbia this week. An ENT follow up, and a Rusk follow up and 2 other prosthetists to compare services and legs. Thursday October 9th 7:30 pm Tyler Ray update:UPDATE BY CINDY TONIGHT:We have had a nice evening . We ate out at a hibachi place , fairly new in Eldon . Great food !! We are all stuffed Tyler had wound care clinic today . They are thinking it is looking much better , but this infection likes moist environments , kinda like swimmers ear . We will continue our treatment routine & try to dry it out even more than I thought we had been . They think his appt. Next week should be the last with wound care . Tyler still has pain , pretty much consistent at a level 5 . With Tyler's other feelings & concerns this week ..... I have hardly asked him about his pain . Wound care doctor today thought his recent sleepiness , rash on face & most of his body , feeling feverish & then going in to the chills , itchy everywhere , enlarged pupils could be going thru withdrawals from all the heavy opioids they had him on . Even though he hasn't had anything like that since Sept . 16th . Tuesday September 9th 7:00 pm Tyler Ray update:Tyborg has still been dealing with pretty severe nerve pain around his stump. At least he’s not having Phantom Pains, but he’s fighting feelings like his stump dragging through gravel or being stabbed or sometimes like being shocked. It’s easy to tell when it’s affecting him as his left thigh spasms.We had a visit with a new Doctor today that will be his new general Physician. Dr. Lockhert at the Lake Regional Lake Ozark Clinic. We really liked him. He has several amputee patients too, so he seems to have a good grasp of what Tyborg is dealing with. He changed up a couple of drugs as he believes they will work better for him. We sure hope so! The Doctor took a lot of time visiting with Tyborg to make his determinations. Excellent bedside manner!My sister is working hard to settle mom’s estate and get everything taken care of. Several years ago, I commissioned an artist friend to copy my favorite photo of mom and dad and make 2 additional prints. I had intended to keep the original for myself and give my brother and sister the prints, but as much as my sister did for mother and us, I decided she deserved the original and I gave it to her today. Wednesday September 3rd 8:15 pm Tyler Ray update:It’s been a rough month! But we are going to survive and succeed as always!Tyborg had a follow-up with the Orthopedic Surgeon that performed his TMR Surgery. He believes we are healing well and right where we should be. Tyborgs pain does not appear to be Phantom pain, but residual pain from severely damaged nerves still healing. Basically, he’s not feeling like it’s in his foot or toes, but right in the area surrounding his stump. The Doctor did listen to his and our concerns about pain level and made some changes to his scripts to try and alleviate the pain. Hopefully it will improve shortly!In my last post, I announced the passing of my mother. To help understanding with friends, our mother was such a private little lady. We'll have her cremated and will scatter her and my father's ashes together at some point. There will be no service or visitation nor celebration of life. She would not have wanted these, nor do my brother, sister or myself feel the need to. The comments on that post are being saved for all of us to remember though. Tuesday September 2nd update:She was the best mom I could have hoped to be blessed with. I can hear her laughing still. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget it! Love you mom.Mom passed. Cindy & Tyler have been living at her house for the past 5 years as caregivers for her. My sister came from Texas 8 1/2 months ago to start teaming with Cindy when mom became bedridden. It's been a long, hard, month helping both mom & Tyler.

Sunday August 31st 08:45pm Tyler Ray update:Tyler is happy to be home in his man cave again. Still has some pain issues, but he’s handling it like the trooper he is! I did have a conversation with a gentleman at a dispensary and we did purchase him a topical cream to try. First dose had no effect at all, but Cindy was light on applying. We will try a tad more each time to see if we can get some help.The Dr from Rusk did not prescribe enough pills to carry him to his next Dr appointment with his new regular Dr. We called to see if they could give him 2 days worth and were told, he’s been discharged and no longer his patient. A few phone calls to a good friend and sweetheart, and I think we’ll be ok, but ridiculous situation!!I have installed some toilet rails, a shower grab handle, a shower seat and a shower head with a detachable hand held piece. He took a shower today and thought I had done a good job picking where to mount things and set heights for him. He’s getting around in his man cave by using his walker, then, when he comes upstairs, he sits on the stairs and climbs up backwards. At the top, his wheelchair is waiting and he gets right up in it and wheels himself around. Go back down is just reverse.Cody came down from Ankeny for the day and fixed his amazing Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Shredded enough that Tyborg could have some too!In other news, my mother took a turn and it’s not looking too hopeful this time. Thursday August 28th 9:00 pm Tyler Ray update:Tyler had difficulty getting to sleep last night due to pain, but once he got to sleep, he slept ok. We have a wedge to keep him more elevated for his facial swelling, but it’s not too wide and he kept falling off it.Cindy woke him at 6am for meds and he was hurting, but again, eventually fell asleep. She woke him again at noon for more meds and he’s been in agony the rest of the day.My sister asked about giving him one of her THC pills, but I’m concerned about other drug interactions. Cindy called the Dr, and we’re waiting to hear back. He’s got 13 scripts with all sorts of warnings and one is Narcan, just in case. So until we get a Dr or Pharmacist advice, it’s a no. I feel horrible for him, but I’m not killing him now!Cindy is extremely stressed about his medications and timing. They’re all on a chart with time of day and doseage, but it’s 3 freaking pages! She’s doing fantastic though. And my sister is helping as well.I’ve ordered some things to install this weekend to try and make life easier and more independent for Tyborg. At least I hope. I sat in his bathroom a while yesterday trying to figure out how to do things without one leg. Think about that yourself. It ain’t easy!Anyone that wants to visit can text or message Tyborg or myself and we’ll see if it’s a good time and tell you where he is. Visitors help distract him from the pain and cheer him up. Wednesday August 27th 8:45 pm Tyler Ray update:Long day, but HOME at last!!They’ve still been weaning Tyler down on pain meds, so he’s still in quite a bit of pain and his leg just is spasming and twitching almost constantly.Tyler’s OT today was a shower. Helped him feel a bit better at least . Also, knowing he was out of there and going to his own place was motivating !We got out of Rusk at about 12:30pm. Our Trauma Doctor follow-up was at 2:30pm, but with no where else to go, we just went to the office. They’d had a cancellation! We were in instantly! Doctor looked over his stump and told him he no longer needed the brace unless it made him more comfortable. Took out the stitches and said all good. As for pain and spasms, all normal still due to nerve trauma. It will still take at least a couple months for decent relief. He’s proved other things differently, so hopefully he’ll heal quicker for this too!A stop for one last Lakota Chocolate Coffee Shake and we left. Stopped at Opies Transport and said hello to everyone and got some paperwork notarized. Thanks Debra! The Opies have been great to us! A quick stop at Eldon home for some gear for Tyler and finally home! I think Tyler liked my landscaping surprise. Got him settled into his man cave. Made a RX run. Holy cow, walked out of the pharmacy with a grocery sack!! Got dinner Ubered in. Ate. And back in Eldon so I can go to work in the morning!LONG DAY! We’re all beat. Tuesday August 26th 7:00pm Tyler Ray update:LAST DAY!! GOING HOME TOMORROW PM!!He was exhausted last night and pretty much asleep by 7 PM .... Nurses gave meds at 6 AM he is still asleep now (7am)....I would say pain level was about a steady 7 last night. Not a rough schedule today, starts at 11 am .... I'll send a photo in a few minutes . (Photo was from yesterday)Doctors came by .... giving the standard speech about tentative release day tomorrow ..... like I said STANDARD . The case manager will come by after the meeting about Tyler & let us know for sure if there are any changes about the discharge tomorrow . They want to wean Tyler off the morphine ...... as a Doctor & more likely a nurse practitioner will NOT write a script for morphine . No real surprise there . The new med has a medical name......but common name vicadin (sp)? THIS discussion led me to once we leave here......how long before he will need more prescriptions ...... meaning refilled......the answer was about a week . PROBABLY that is why the nurse practioner appt is next Wed. !!!!! I told the Doctors this morning ..... he has 2 appts that same day ..... and I was not sure that is doable time wise with driving ? Also i think who ever he sees about the meds will lower his dosage of Tylenol ETC. Another reason they probably want an appt within a week . (No worries on appointments , dad will drive) Good to know . My other question for the Doctors this morning was .... when he goes home , does he still need to keep his head elevated ? I thought he had to do this his concussion ..... Doctors said no ...... he head has been elevated because of his facial surgery & the swelling . So Doctors will reach out to ENT & hopefully get back to answer the question before he goes home . To elevate or not .3 hrs of OT & PT today! Until he gets used to it .... the only thing hard about the stairs will be the fully standing up at the top & the bottom when finished with the stairs . Needs to practice . The stairs are also about having your wheelchair or walker where you need it when you get to the top or bottom.....I'll be getting a stair workout as well ..... Quabe & Sarah , yesterday talked about coming to visit him at home as well .... I am sure along with others too ..... I've a bit of work ahead of me .Discharge day is tomorrow . If going w / Dr. Lockheart , do they know the appt needs to be pretty soon ..... to fill meds . ??Case worker still trying to find out where the handicapped placard paper work needs to be sent . Your former Opies driver James and his wife Mary came by ..... they are so nice ..... They wanted to visit before Tyler leaves tomorrow ..... and they wanted us to say "Hi" to you from them . Tyler is in pain , tossing & turning a bit . He just can't get comfortable . The new pain med is not having the effect , we'd all hoped for . He also had to wait to take the first dose .... he was maxed out on Tylenol . Another good day of working out . So proud of him . After his last wourkout session today , he said his arms felt like noodles . I keep praying for relief . Looking forward to leaving Rusk tomorrow . I know his spirit will be lifted . Monday August 25th 8:00 PM Tyler Ray update:CINDY: Good morning . Pretty painful night . I think he was in so much pain , he kept twitching , either leg , at different times trying to get to sleep . Not sure if this was on purpose or involuntary ??? Doctors are increasing a pain med today . Doctors appt Wed after discharge at 1pm from Rusk. Will be at main hospital . We’ll het Tyborg a final Lakota shake for ride home!Right now he is getting an extra hour of PT . Busy morning . Some of this morning’s PT photographed by Meghan Opie who just happened to spot him while she was in the area. At 1pm: In pain . He is dealing with it & being a trooper . Greg is here now . And Tyler has group therapy at 2 PM . We just got done playing Uno . And therapy again at 3 PM . Both therapies are 30 minutes each coming up . OK , the schedule must have been wrong with therapy at 2 .... Kara has left for the day . So just therapy at 3 . And probably wound care ..... with someone teaching me ..... before then ..... one less thing to do before discharge..... also they took blood this by vein ..... another discharge procedure nurse will be in now for morphine Quabe and Sarah came for another visit and broughthim a coffee shake! They’ve been such great friends! Lucky they just live so close! We love our new family !DAD: trying desperately to find him a Family Doctor . Have a great friend at the hospital trying to help also. Need to be able to see in September for pain meds review/renew. I’m working on setting up a meet with Tyborg and the EMT crew from Miller County Ambulance that helped save his life!Still much to do and leaving so soon! Sunday August 24th 8:00 pm Tyler Ray update:Today I left earlier so I could get Tyler a Peanut butter power shake ftom Scooters Coffee before his first therapy session! He sucked it down pretty quick.He had PT from 9-10am, then a break, and OT from 11am-noon! I got tired just watching him! They’re pushing him pretty hard in hopes of Wednesday discharge.These sessions are really bringing the pain through. He had some lunch and pain meds after, but his leg was throbbing and feeling like he was getting tazed and stabbed. Worse than usual for him. I left about 2:00 pm to come back to mom’s and help my sister there for a bit before coming home.Tyler had some friends come and visit for a couple hours. They have been to see him twice so far. Simply fantastic kids! They drive 4 hours one way to talk to him!! It helps distract Tyler from the pain. He was finally able to get a nap after they left! One of the best things for Tyborg is visitors! Absolutely the best medicine for him! Non-narcotic, yet addictive still! . We can’t wait to get him home so he’s closer for them to come by!!Again, please share our campaign and help out if you can. Saturday August 23rd 8:00pm Tyler Ray update:I got some laundry and cleaning done around the house this morning before leaving to be with Tyborg and Cindy.I stopped at 7Brews for a tall Blondie with extra vanilla and a sippie lid. His favorite from here. Building up some rewards points for sure!Tyler had just finished a round of OT and was chillin in bed. He sucked down the 7Brew as lunch arrived.Grandma Carol and Aunt Candy arrived for a visit. Candy flew in to KC yesterday to pickup Grandma and come to see the Man, the Myth, the Legend, TYBORG! We all chatted for about 30 minutes, then Tyler was due another round of Therapy. 30 minutes of PT and 30 minutes of OT! Brutal. Grandma Carol, Aunt Candy, Cindy and i went for lunch while Tyler hammered through Therapy.When we returned , he had finished as was chillin in bed again. He was doing ok pain wise, but still hurts everywhere. He describes the leg pain as both an electrical zap and someone stabbing his leg from the inside. He’s amazing at remaining calm and cool on the outside, but you can tell he’s fighting on the inside by the leg twitching.Our Visitors left about 2:30pm as Tyler was wore out and needed a nap. Cindy and I stayed with him.Dinner arrived about 4:30, but he wasn’t hungry, just tired. Cindy let him sleep another 20 minutes and woke him again as we didn’t want dinner to get cold. Lunch and dinner were both Macaroni and cheese, some form of puréed fruit and a chocolate Ensure. It’s not bad, but not as good as MU Hospital.After dinner his pain was really ramping up. I think between the therapy and his body just trying to heal, he’s just worn out. Workouts are tough enough when a person is healthy!I left to do some shopping on the way home. Cindy just let me know he’s still really hurting. Doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a good night, but he continues to get better! Still appears he’ll be discharged this Wednesday. Friday August 22nd 8:15 pm Tyler Ray update:CINDY: Good morning , Babe . That is a beautiful picture As you know Tyler was quite tired . Nurse came in at midnight , I thought to give morphine ..... which i was thinking would hold him til he would wake up this morning . But she gave him a scheduled neoproxin , first . Then she said he could not have the morphine til about 2 hours later ..... because both meds together may reduce breathing function . And I am thinking ..... that would have been nice to know before he took the neoproxin first . She did the similar thing at 5:30 this morning ..... I was thinking Tyler would get morphine at 6 AM , but no , he can get some about 7:30 AM if needed since she gave him neoproxin , again . He had a bit of trouble going back to sleep at 5:30 ..... he moned a bit & it took 45 mins to go back to sleep . But he has slept 12 plus hours , which is good . So a pretty good day so far . Doctors just came in .... they said no real evidence in the CBD creams or ointments They will be getting a list of Tyler's current meds. The pharmacist has to print it out . Tyler made it to ALL of HIS PT & OT sessions today . A total of 3 hours between them . This was NOT easy . But he pushed thru the pain and had absolutely no energy while participating . He is a champ . We are so proud of him . At one point , at about 2 o'clock , Lauren Tyler's OT got Tyler's nurse & brought her to the session so Tyler could take his morphine . Like I said , he is a champ . With quite the list of meds. He is taking & the liquid & semi soft foods.......his body is doing the best it can . Healing is exhausting . We keep supporting Tyler and praying . We know there are many good happy days to come . DAD: Took this photo at Opies Transport this morning. Just thought it was a beautiful scene!Swapped back to the Falcon at lunch. Tyborgs Honda is now named the Kidney Killer 2000! Good Lord!! Got to Rusk and fed Cindy about 5:30 tonight, then back to Eldon for bed. I’m beat!Thank you to all for your continued prayers and support. Thursday August 21st 7:00 pm Tyler Ray update:Last night Tyler was in quite a bit of pain from 10 til midnight . He got morphine & eventually went to sleep . About 6 AM more morphine . He had to fully wake up at 11 AM for PT . am very proud of Tyler for doing an hour and a half of PT . And an hour of OT . He only missed a half hour with OT , as he was in pain . He'll have a few makeup sessions this weekend . The goal tomorrow is to get thru ALL his training . He swallowed Mac & Cheese , orange sherbet , and a chocolate Ensure for dinner . Just waiting til 6 PM for morphine . A fair day , it could have been better , but it also could have been worse . DAD: they’re ordering a wheel chair for him that we will keep. It’ll have extra support for his 3/4 leg. We’re discussing if we need a shower seat or something for him to make getting in and out of his tub shower easier. I feel it’s a fall hazard without something.He’s on a lot of different meds trying to control his muscle spasms and nerve pain, but no real hard addictive narcotics other than morphine. The morphine really just knocks him out.I got Tyler’s Honda out to get it running. It’s fun, but damned snug for an old fat dude! I’ll drive it to Columbia tomorrow and swap back out for the Falcon Saturday morning.

Wednesday August 20th 7:30 pm Tyler Ray update:Written by Cindy:Not a good day for Tyler. He had morning pain around 8 AM. He didn't feel like getting up, at first to workout with PT, so he did exercises in bed. He felt a little better & then wanted to attempt stairs. Let me tell you, the stairs here are a little scary. Metal & 'old school' ish. He also practiced a one step tenique to be able to hop inside from the garage. He did great on all accounts. His hour wasn't 'over' yet, so a few more leg bed exercises. Then he waited patiently for his new meds. New meds will be given around the clock every 6 hours, day & night. Today I don't think they have helped much. Tyler could not participate in other OT & PT activities this afternoon. Not unusual, this has happened at other times. Doctors want to get him off the Oxi. They don't want him to become addicted & suffer withdrawals at home. Unfortunately, I do not understand the meds & I have to leave it in their hands & God's. Tyler is resting now, we are waiting for dinner. Well morphine should be quick acting, but on Tyler it may have the opposite effect. He had it about noon didn't fall asleep til about 3 ..... just tried to wake him for dinner, he has no interest in eating, still in pain about a 7, and is gonna fall back asleep. Good he is sleeping, but I wish I could do more & that the meds work in his favor. Nurse was just in, but Tyler wanted to hold off more morphine. Tyler had Tylenol & Neoproxin. More meds due around 8 or 9 ish. Dr. Ogbo just came in and talked to Tyler. About meds, and what they are going to try..... he wanted Tyler's opinion about how the morphine affected him ..... he asked Tyler about therapy..... the OT & PT ..... part of things ...... Dr. Ogbo also asked Tyler if he needed to talk to a physic doctor who is only in on Thursdays ...... Tyler said no ..... but good to keep in mind. Dr. Ogbo was great explaining reality & how to help him get through different aspects. Gonna try lidocaine pain patches & more of a muscle spazum med. just an FYI for you. Praying for the right path. I am so glad Dr. Ogbo came in. On my side, worked. Went to mom’s at lunch and swapped out the Falcon ( my Altima ) for Tyborg’s hoopty mobile ( pickup - lowered ). Back to work, but left early to recover Tyborg’s bike! Tuesday August 19th 7:30 pm Tyler Ray update:Written by Cindy tonight!!Tyler had a pretty good night's sleep. Went to bed about 9 PM , after taking meds. He woke up at 2 AM to take more meds.The Doctors made their rounds about 7:30 AM. Tyler wasn't in too much pain at that time ...... but the pain started ramping up around 9 AM. So much so, he had no desire to participate with OT. But an hour later, his pain was a bit more manageable, so with PT he was able to do bed exercises, which lasted about an hour. Kara was very concerned with Tyler's pain. She unwrapped, adjusted, and rewrapped. Tyler was a trooper.Tyler had visitors today. An old family friend and a friend from middle school. ENT doctors' appt went well, face looks good. Still swollen but healing like it should. Another follow-up there in 2 months. Pain was ramping up at the end of the Doctors visit. He’s been on a full liquid diet, but today it changed a little to soft foods ... without chewing ..... just swallowing like the lasagne & mac and cheese he ate for dinner. Just relaxing now, watching TV. Wondering what tomorrow's schedule will look like. There are weekly meetings about the patients here & after today's meeting: Tentitive Discharge date Wed. , August 27th . Wow !! Strong & young. VERY LUCKY with little brain injuries. DAD is holding off commenting on the face and/or the Brain Damage.

Monday August 18th 8:00 pm Tyler Ray update:More positive strides for Tyborg today! Tyler had a good night . Still trying to sleep now. He went to sleep just after meds at 8:30 PM . He had 2 meds at 6 AM , but not Oxi Just kinda waiting for breakfast now & looks like he is going to the gym today around 10 to 11 AM ..... and in his room today activities at 1 & 2 PM . Case manager Anna just was in for 5 minutes , before she had to go to a meeting . But she'll be back at bit later this morning ..... to finalize details . I have told her about his ENT appt tomorrow . ..... . Tyler's pain level hit another high this AM . Dr. Jones & Dr. Ogbo were just in , while he was kinda coming down from pain . They unwrapped it & were squeezing his thigh & gently poking just below his knee . As Tyler says it also hurts there . Dr. Jones thinks there is muscle pain also going on with the nerve pain . So with a different muscle med. We should get more relief . Of course nothing is instant , it may take a few days . I'll be getting back with you . Nurse getting ready to rewrap his leg . I ran to Osage Beach to help my mom and sister with a broken fridge and to get some stuff for Cindy & Tyborg. Tomorrow night I’ll visit Columbia !His leg was bothering him around 4:45 PM , so he is sleeping now . No real further updates other than muscle meds. , weight work out , doctors appt tomorrow . He also he has had quite a bit of an appetite today . He passed his speech therapy ...... so no speech therapy to help with memory . He got deductions for stupid mistakes . I think it was a good day , other than the pain ...... mostly 2 times of pain today . Sarah also came by today with 2 Lego sets Although right now he really doesn't have the room or quite the attention span to put them together ...... so he'll wait to , I am sure . They are very cool Another good day for our one and three quarter legged lucky man!!

Sunday August 17th 8:00 PM Tyler Ray update:I ran a couple errands for my sister and mom, then stopped for some supplies for the week before heading to Columbia to see Cindy and Tyborg.Cindy texted earlier:I am sure Tyler got a good night's sleep . He had his pain meds about 10 o'clock last night . He told the nurse , who asked , if he wanted to be woken up at midnight for more routine meds and he said no . Tyler has been in & out of sleep since about 6 AM ..... not really wanting to fully awake . His leg started bothering him a bit more than usual , so he asked for Oxi at 6 . He also had regular Tylenol at 5 AM . Dr. Came in i told her about headache yesterday ..... she said they have a gel they could use on his neck that may help . She listened to his heart . Said his blood sugar was very low Saturday AM . 50 They checked again this AM . 86 Dr. Said he may get a snack in the evenings . I am sure that helped last night . No breakfast for him so far , too sleepy . Just relaxing . I spent the day with them. We had an old friend stop by with his wife. He drove for Opies for a long time and is still a great friend. They brought Tyborg some delicious snacks! Then Tyborg had a couple visit that have come almost everyday. Great friends from Fulton. They went out and bought him some cologne as he was complaining about himself. lol Poor kid just wants a shower! And towards the end of the day, a special young lady arrived with her mom, sister and sisters cute baby. I left during their visit. Tyborg loves having visitors. His phone is great, but chatting in person really cheers him up!Thank you to today’s visitors and everyone’s continued support and prayers! It means the world to us!

Saturday August 16th 9:00 pm Tyler Ray update:This is one tough SOB! I can’t express how proud his mom and I are at how he is dealing with this!He had a rough night last night, and a rough day today. I believe they’re weaning are weaning him off the narcotics and trying to work on alternative methods of working through his pain. Last night was mostly his leg, today a migraine type headache. I got him the magic elixir known as a Chocolate Coffee Milkshake from Lakota Coffee. It did help.Rusk is a nice facility so far, but they don’t have much in the way of food for him. He’s going to be on a strictly liquid diet for another 4-5 weeks. I stopped at Walmart and bought him some things to help get him some calories to heal. Sadly, the Lakota Coffee is too far for Cindy to be able to get him the shakes. <- Note to friends, small or medium Coffee Chocolate Milkshake! They also don’t have much for visitors staying with patients , so Cindy needed some too.Cindy’s evening note:The cinnamon applesauce you bought was a hit . Tyler just had one cup , one Boost , and 2/3 of a Gatorade . Guess you could say a late dinner . His pain level has been the same since you left ....... which is good middle of the road . He has stayed awake since you left ..... we are trying to watch TV and Tyler has been on his phone quite a bit .Thank you to Denise Allgaier, Sarah Kaskus & Caleb Richards for all the support today! His arm dressings need to be changed again .... back to the sticky stuff because the stuff that is on now is not good long-term. nerve Dr. said he would have to come back here in another month & have another CAT scan to see how things are progressing.We are at Rusk now! Thursday August 14th 9:00pm Tyler Ray update:HOLY COW HE CHANGED IN JUST A DAY!!LOOK AT THAT FACE!Good morning. 2 rounds of doctors already came in checking. Sometimes the Gabapentin can take a few days to work effectively. So hoping for less pain today. Kodi from prosthetics will come by for that tight compression fitting to help w / pain & to help protect it. He was here yesterday, but I didn't realize that is what he was here for yesterday. Tyler slept pretty good last night as he is moving / turning onto his sides to sleep. So far, so good . ME: Any update from Dr Kong on his CAT Scan after fall? If no, I'd say he's lucky again and we need to haul his ass to a gas station to buy a lottery ticket!!No news from Dr. Kong. Yes, let's go to the gas station Kodi from prosthetics came by & fit Tyler with the compression sock ....... that is exactly what it looks like a big sock . If the sock gets dirty , it can be washed in the sink & air dried . The black brace is off now , but he should always sleep with it at night . During the day he should keep it off for a few hours & put it back on for a few hours . I also figure he should keep it on doing PT or being kinda active to help protect it from getting bumped . I took a few pictures , from the angle I was at , but it looks quite swollen almost so much to match his thigh . With little food he feels exhausted , pain level is less about a 5 ..... I am sure the muscle relaxers are also making him sleepy . Nick was in from Rusk , the transfer will be tomorrow . PT & OT are quite busy , but i do hope they come by sometime today . Nick just stopped in again from Rusk . He said therapy still hopes to make it here today , but no specific time . They have more beds opening up over at Rusk , "so hopefully we'll get him over there tomorrow mornimg." That was a direct quote from Nick . His friends Jill & Shelby stopped by late afternoon. Really picked him up! Thank you so much ladies!!I couldn’t believe how great he looks today AND he got out of bed himself and walked (kinda) to the bathroom and used the big boy potty! Tyborg is growing up so fast!! Seriously, I can’t believe the improvement he’s making!!I left shortly after and met Quabe and Sarah headed up for a visit. SO glad they just live in Fulton!! They’re visiting often and Tyborg really likes seeing his friends! Apparently dad can be embarrassing. I thought that was my job?!!He’s also back into group chats on his phone, so eyes & fingers working better as well.We are so blessed by everyone’s prayers!!I looked at his hospital records out of curiosity. At Lake Regional, he was given EIGHT units of blood!! Anyone know how much an average adult male has?! Guess!?! He’s alive because of the OBPD, EMS & Lake Regional ER!!

Wednesday August 13th 8:00 pm Tyler Ray update:I’m still at home. Needed to run some errands and get some clothes together for Tyler to wear at Rusk. 12 pair underwear and 6 pair of socks. Think hard. . 6 new pair of shorts and some T-shirts from his closet as new haven’t arrived yet. Also got some clothes for Cindy.Updates from Cindy:Nick from Rusk was just here . He knows Tyler is in too much pain to participate in therapy . Rusk therapy has been approved thru insurance , but not sure how many days before that may expire . But it can be resubmitted . He is in too much pain & cannot concentrate on 3 hours of therapy a day . He gets frustrated . I told Nick he got out of bed & fell Saturday . Last night he woke up & thought he was at Quabes & Sarah's house . Obviously we don't even know when he will be released from here . if you think of any questions from Rusk , let me know . I also told Nick , he hasn't been getting up to use the bathroom by himself yet . Dr. Chong JUST came by , he looked in Tyler's mouth , it looked good . He didn't know Tyler fell Sat. ..... Dr. C will look at the cat scan to double check . Tyler may be on liquids for 4 to 6 weeks waiting for the bone to heal . He can brush teeth with a soft brush .... just kinda avoid the upper right . I am going to get therapy up here today ...... to help Tyler move . A parent should be allowed to stay at Risk overnight ..... obviously they don't have the extra staff there to .... To be in a specific room . Well , I think everyone is waiting on Tyler's pain level to be lower . Possibly he will transfer to Rusk as soon as tomorrow . I told Nick Tyler doesn't have any shorts or t-shirts to wear there.....Nick said no problem They have extra scrubs to wear for those that go over there right away . My next question will be , is Tyler transported over there ...... next question what about me , how do I get over there ? Tyler is too sleepy to talk about head phones now ...... possibly just after lunch . Just had another Rusk case worker stop by ..... yes they do transfer Tyler , but not me ...... from what I can tell they are tight on beds at Rusk ...... I assume with Tyler's severe case .... they would like him to have first chance on beds there versus someone who has a less severe need ..... like knee replacement ..... if you know what I mean . BTW He got both arms rewrapped today , at the same time . He was a trooper oh yeah , I got pictures . Tyler says he doesn't really care what they look like ..... he just wants a good brand . These are from Amazon . Use your judgement . (Discussing some Bluetooth headphones to buy him)Me to Cindy: Cindy, headphones being delivered by Walmart TONIGHT 4-6pm. Put to deliver to information desk across from Lakota Coffee. I usually get notifications of when, maybe you could meet them. If so, please take drivers license.(Ordered him some nice Beats headphones)I am ok , yes this is stressful on everyone . Tyler's pain was just at a 9 ..... he has had several Dr's & have talked about pain today . I guess it has been too recent after surgery & not sure what meds need to be upped or what new meds to try . He is calm now & gonna try 2 new meds tonight . Dr's don't want to do an IV med. Because that doesn't effectively get him to Rusk . No need to call unless you need something while packing for Tyler . I think Tyler is asleep now . Dr. London was just in , he says the 6 week mark is usually the turn around time for decreased pain . They are going to up Tyler's Oxi every 3 hours instead of 4 . This may really help so it doesn't ramp up . Doctors opinion that was just in thinks Tyler may go to Rusk on Friday . It is anybodys guess . Quabe & Sarah just left . He has been OK while they were here . Now is starting to ramp up with the pain . He says to tell you HI . I'll send pictures 2 probably of arms .From me: Tell him I miss my little buddy! Wednesday August 13th 09:00 am Tyler Ray update:I'm at work again, but received the following update from Cindy:"Good morning. Last night was pretty good, as I am sure it had to do with surgery yesterday. Nurse was timely on meds. He is due another Oxy at 8. Do also redo pain meds, just waiting to hear. Doc will also redo wrapping of left arm today . . . just ran out of time yesterday. Neurologist said to tone down his language a bit. Also going to up his bowels . . . not sure how yet. I am hoping to get him out of bed 2 times today. They most likely will up Gabapentin to 300 instead of 100 . . . this is mostly for nerve pain. Blood work shows low on calcium, so getting an IV of that . . . now he is having a Coffee Chocolate Shake. "ME: "Language? Is he cursing more from pain or ?? ""Oh, it has always been pain related. And he knows & Dr's know it is pain related . . . but some people it really bothers."ME: "F**k'em""Yeah, I know."Thank you again to Anne (Long-time Friend, former employee & amazing spart-ass that I love) and Peak Sport and Spine Jefferson City South, for the Lakota Coffee Gift Cards! Tuesday August 12th 4:45 pm Tyler Ray update:Sorry, phone died!! Not Tyler though.Surgery went well! Of course, after is when they mention it can take 2-4 weeks for effects to happen and up to 6 months for ultimate relief! BUT, nerve bundles were located and attached to new locations.He is still in the recovery in the other building waiting for an ambulance to transport him back to his room where we are waiting impatiently for him.My only complaint with everything is the communication between teams and even between members of the teams. Ask a question or get told something is going to happen, and the next person has a completely different answer. IE, the surgeon said all went well, he’s in recovery and a nurse should be out in 30 or so to take us to him while we wait for transport. 75 minutes later I’m trying to find anyone to give us an update and the surgery waiting area is closed with no one around. I went to another area to get someone to make a call. Back to surgery waiting and a guy comes out and says everything is good they’re just waiting on a transport. We should go back to his room and he’ll be there soon. WTH?!!So, rant over, he’s good, but will still have severe pain for a bit. Hopefully he can manage when they transfer him to Rusk. We’re not sure if Cindy can stay with him there and we’re afraid to ask.

He was due for meds and really hurting before we left pre-op, and they were going to unwrap his stump and give it a shot! Haven’t seen any nurses come out on a stretcher or with a black eye yet. Tuesday August 12th 06:45 am Tyler Ray update:Uneventful night last night. Little more pain than usual this am as they had delayed his last dose bedroom he was sleeping so well. He was having a difficult time concentrating on our Mantra, so they gave him a minimal amount of fentanyl to ease him. Currently he’s feeling pretty good.2 teams, Trauma and Neurological stopped in to check on his recovery. CT scan yesterday was all good. No new brain issues. Still all showing improvement. Great to hear. Really alleviating some of mine and Cindy’s stress over his fall.Now we’re just waiting for them to take him for his rewiring surgery. . Praying this works and helps his leg begin to feel somewhat normal.Thank you everyone for your continued support and prayers!! It’s gonna be a GREAT day!

Monday August 11th 7:30 pm Tyler Ray update:No more news on Tyborg medically. I’ll leave Eldon early to see him before they wheel him out for surgery.Today I ran some errands. Mom needed a WalMart run. My car was finished at Jim’s Pro Auto where my buddy Jason Ort got her fixed. Thanks my friend!! Left Cindy’s truck for a little work and looksie since she got run a tad hard one night last week.Then I decided to stop and look at the accident site. There are questions I have from reading the Police report that just don’t add up. I have some friends that know way more than me looking it and these photos over to give me their thoughts. We’ll see. In my look over, I found more of the bike. Could be an important part.That said, I still firmly believe that the Osage Beach Police Department and the Ambulance crew that night are the only reason that Tyler is still with us! I’m trying to find out the members of both as I want to personally shake their hand and thank them from the bottom of my heart! Monday August 11th 12:30pm Tyler Ray update:Well, I'm back at work for today. I'll go back tomorrow for the day.Messages from Cindy show:Nurse Michael helped Cindy get Tyler some soup last night about 10:30 as Tyler was a little hungry. Good to hear that!! He needs some food to feed the healing.Neurology Drs were in checking on his head trauma. All good.His right eye is still looking the same and I'm still concerned about new damage from his fall the other morning. He does still open it a bit and says he can see, but I worry about all the repaired fractures.He is scheduled for surgery at Noon tomorrow for the TMR Nerve Repair. I will be there for that. Please say some prayers that this helps with his nerve pains.They feel he will be discharged to the Rusk Rehab Hospital by the end of the week. He should be there for 2 weeks where he will spend 3-4 hours a day doing Occupational and Physical Therapies. I ordered him some new shirts to wear while he's there. They won't be here until next Monday, but I'll get them to him ASAP!Police Report received. I'm not real happy, but waiting to discuss with some friends to get their opinions. Sunday August 10th 9:00pm Tyler Ray update:Last night appeared to be a good night! He did not appear to try to get out of bed. He used his pee jug! Sure hope he doesn’t get lazy!! lol Tyler’s appetite is improving still. He ate a decent breakfast and then sucked down a Lakota Chocolate Coffee Shake!He had a couple, Caleb Richards and Sarah Kaskus, stop in before lunch. He was fighting through some pain but they helped keep him distracted and he continued his mantra while maintaining his cool. Caleb came up with our new nickname for Tyler. He is now: TYBORG He also sent me some Tyborg artwork he created with a little AI help.I left for a WalMart run as we changed our plans due to him having his severe pain in the evening and knowing a nurse would not be able to spend an hour or better on just him. I got a few personal necessities for Cindy to spend the next few nights in his room with him.When I returned, I noticed a beautiful old car in the parking garage and found Greg Sneed visiting him. Tyler slept through most, but still a good visit! He sucked down another Chocolate Coffee Shake too!Then Caleb & Sarah returned . They had gone and bought him the softest throw blanket I’ve ever felt! Such a gift to have family like this!!Not too long after, I left so I could get stuff ready to return to work tomorrow.He then had more visitors. Maisie Bowen and precious Bean along with Trenton came by as the nurses were changing his dressing on his right arm. They took a break during the visit so Tyler didn’t get seen acting like a little girl. . Kidding! I don’t know how he handles that pain!!Another hospital staff member came by to check on Tyler about his fall and check on the nurses and room. Interesting.Tyler slept a while after all that before eating some dinner. Cindy and Tyler watched some TV and he began to feel the pain again, so he and Cindy began to work through it while we said goodnight.I still can’t get overhow he’s working through all the pain. When to nurses change his bandages, he tells them he’s sorry, but he’ll probably scream during the removal , but just do what they need and he holds his arm perfectly still while they do it! And since coming up with a mantra, he’s controlled himself through the nerve pain. Im so impressed and proud of him!

Sunday August 10th 11:30 am Tyler Ray update:Was a good night once we finally got him to sleep.We arrived at 5:30 and he woke up as we opened the door. Urinal had been used, so he had stayed in bed this time!His pain came back around 6 ish and he had to wait until 7 for his meds. He’s remembering our mantra and using it to get through until the meds hit. He’s having some pretty scary hallucinations on the meds that we’re trying to talk him through as well.He’s a helluva trooper though. Again, visitors are welcome! Saturday August 9th 9:15 pm Tyler Ray update:Started off rough with a fall. All bed alarms are fully active and Fall Risk protocols on.Cody Ray stopped in again on his way back home. Pretty chill and relaxing morning. Appetite is getting better, but still no real GI activity. Hopeful that will come around soon. Sounds are there at least.A high school buddy drove up about 4 hours with his brother, sister and niece. Their niece calls Tyler Uncle T Ray. It was very cute. Good visit! It had been quite a while!Afternoon started, what I’m going to call, a pain spiral. Very intense leg pain with screaming and cussing. I started working with him in a basic meditation process to stay relaxed. I believe he starts to hurt, then tenses his leg muscles, irritates the nerves and just keeps spiraling into more pain and tense muscles. I gave him a basic montra “Long, Slow, Deep Breathes” and to say it, think it, do it, and he came back down and meds started working and he was good.He had a beautiful young lady visit with him. She drove all the way from Camdenton after a hard day at work. We gave them some privacy, then got a phone call requesting two chocolate milkshakes. The Lakota shop had just closed, but the hospital cafe also makes a good milkshake. Tonight he is starting to feel it and I am keeping some distance and reminding him of our new montra and he is doing SO much better!! I’m so proud of him. He is working SO hard! We’re hanging loose at least until the meds kick in and he goes to sleep.

Saturday August 9th 7:00am Tyler Ray update:After my post last night, things got a little rough. He started getting in quite a bit of pain. It took us quite a while to get him relaxed and sleepy. His max dose of pain meds also. I will say we saw more of the ‘real’ Tyler as we’ve never really heard him cuss before. Yet, still polite with please, thank you and I’m really sorry. This morning, we arrived to see a new sign on the door and I knew, as I’m sure all of you know, why. We came in to the Dr giving him a very stern, but concerned lecture. Tyler looked right at me and said he got stupid again. In his semi-drugged/confused state, he needed to pee and tried to get out of bed and went down. Hard! The Dr doesn’t believe he damaged anything old or new. He was a bit bloody. His leg and face are hurting really bad. They gave him a small dose of fentanyl to try and bring it down, and 30 minutes later some oxy, acetaminophen and ibuprofen. He’s sitting in the recliner in severe pain and hollering. It’s difficult to see him like this.He’s groggy and confused and mumbling nonsense and moaning. Just wish the meds would kick and help him to relax. I think that would help.

Friday August 8th 7:30 pm Tyler Ray update:Slow recovery day today!PT came in and got him out of bed and into a recliner chair. He didn’t particularly want to. His pain is more today. After a short discussion about how changing positions and moving are so important, he bucked up and made it to the chair with a little help.They’re weaning him off the harder narcotic pain meds and onto RX strength Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen.Big brother Cody arrived for a visit. An old friend of mine, James Bynum and his wife, Mary, visited. Another young lady friend who has a baby in NICU stopped to visit. Her fiancé is a friend from high school and will stop by with her again tomorrow.We watched 3 air ambulance choppers come in and unload back to back. Not good, but cool to watch. 2 Bell 407’s and an Airbus H135.Got himself back into bed with little help from one nurse.Much needed rest day really.

Friday August 8th 11:30AM Tyler Ray update:PT got him up out of bed. He didn’t want the breakfast, but I offered to get him a Chocolate Coffee Milkshake from Lakota Coffee in the lobby and he sucked it down QUICK. He just kept saying, “Oh my God, this is the best thing ever!”.The Neurologist assistant & Prosthetics dept paid a visit to discuss the TMR surgery and Prosthesis future. Current plan is still to have TMR Surgery on Tuesday. Shortly after he would be transferred to Rusk Rehab for a 1 to 2 week stay before coming home.He’s a hell of a trooper! They asked him about moving his left leg and even after saying he’s in a 7/10 pain level, he bucked up and showed he could move!Business friends have reached out and sent him a gift card from the Hospital Coffee shop so he can get more milkshakes. Big brother should arrive in another hour too.

Friday August 8th 8:00am Tyler Ray update:He slept well last night. Face is a tad more swollen than yesterday, but is looking, well, more like Tyler. Poor kid. We asked for improvement, but not in the budget!Dr teams came around. The ENT Surgery team checked his face and stitches and stirred up the pain level. He just kept apologizing for moaning and Dr was like, we expect it. Everything is looking good. He’s got 2 titanium plates around his right eye holding his eye socket together!Trauma team said everything looking good too!Neurological team is thinking Tuesday for his TMR procedure.They seem to think he’ll be ready to transfer to Rusk Rehab next week!!Thing’s went quick at first, then slowed to a crawl and suddenly are going so fast again!! It’s confusing a bit, but great too!!Visitors are welcome 8am to 8pm. He’s currently drugged pretty heavily, but can wake up to visit. Friends and family are great anytime! His brother just left Des Moines area headed this way.

Thursday August 7th 4:30pm Tyler Ray update:Surgeon tells us everything went great. He has two plates holding the bones together. They made a small incision along the eyebrow for 1 plate at the top and the other between his gum and top of the jaw inside his mouth to put in the lower plate leaving a scar inside the mouth. Amazing how they do these things!!FYI - Everyone at MU Hospital is amazing! Great facility!!

Thursday August 7th 1:00pm Tyler Ray update:Was another good night. In and out of sleep, but pain fairly controlled.Pain really started amping up about 10:15 - 10:30. Both leg and right face/head. Got to about a 9/10 and they gave him some meds finally .Surgery was scheduled for noon, but we’re still waiting. Something must be going on with the prior surgery. Hoping all is going to be ok for that person.So, no real news yet?!?

Wednesday August 6th 19:00 Tyler Ray update:HUGE day today!!Finally got to drink some liquid and quench his dry mouth and throat this morning.He was helped up and into a chair for a little while.Two ladies from Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy came and taught him how to get up out of bed and walk (hop) with a walker around the room.He ate a lunch and dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, juice, milk, ice cream and vegetable soup. Anyone want some soup? Cindy mentioned vegetables and he wouldn’t even try it!Had another couple visitors that came again after last night. Great time visiting with Caleb & Sarah!!His leg pain is still pretty bad often. Claims it feels like it’s going to explode. One Doctor told us it’s like someone constantly poking you from the inside with an ice pick. Yikes! Wish they would do the TMR procedure sooner than 1-2 more weeks. He’s seeing pretty clear, which is amazing considering the amount of cream they put in his eyes! We are very much looking forward to the facial reconstruction surgery tomorrow. Time yet to be determined.He is exhausted, but seems mentally fantastic! Great attitude. All the nurses love him. Very polite, respectful and mellow. Tells them pain is 8+/10 and they say another 20-30 minutes until meds and he just says ok, see you then, grins and bears it. Moans some, but doesn’t complain.We did look through pictures from LR ER and here from start to today. His comment was ”Holy Sh*t!”. I have not let him see pictures of his bike or the video of the accident yet, but will in the future. He doesn’t remember the accident, but he knows what happened.AWESOME DAY!! He’s a machine! He is NOT going to let this hold him back in anyway!

Wednesday August 6th 8:15am Tyler Ray update:Was a good night. Before we left, his left leg was hurting a lot, but they gave him a couple different pain meds and they worked quickly and he went out for the night.This morning he says it feels like he’s got a bowling ball in his right eye socket. It looks like it too! It has swelled bigger!! His left eye almost looks normal though. He slept laying flat, so blood wasn’t really draining from his head. They have him sitting up more, so it should help his eye.His left leg is bothering him again, now that he’s sitting up. Well, blood is getting down and swelling it a bit, so it has more pressure now. He’s sleeping again anyway, so all good.He was allowed to drink some cold water. He really liked that! They are planning to remove his catheter and try to get him out of bed and pee in a jug. Some things seem slow while others seem quick. All in all, he’s recovering great!!All our friends Prayers are working and it’s greatly appreciated!!

AUGUST 5th EVENING CHECK-IN:Tuesday August 5th 7:15pm Tyler Ray update:Another good day!Had our second Orthopedic Surgery to clean out and close his amputation. All went well.Tomorrow he should get transferred to a regular hospital room. Our room, for the last 3 days, was voted the most boring room in ICU. He had another great visit with a group of his friends. Lots of laughs. Tyler was teasing them and they were teasing him. It was so great!! I think it’s so helpful for his recovery!! Thank you so much Maisie Bowen, Jill Feeler, Shelby Lee, Sarah Kaskus, Alyssa Williams, Caleb Richards, Greg Sneed, Garrett, Gabe, Jordan & Tevin!!I forgot to mention the most IMPORTANT guest:The one and only BEAN! Cutest little girl ever !!Still don’t get his hiding them away, but pretty sure it’s us, or really me, he’s hiding. . I’ve always thought it was my job, my DUTY, as a father to be as embarrassing as humanly possible! At least that’s what my dad did. So, day 4 down and looking better still. Tomorrow should just be a boring moving day. Thursday they rebuild his face. Won’t be long and he’ll transfer to the Rusk Rehab Center for 2 weeks of learning how to do everything on one leg before coming home.

AUGUST 4th EVENING CHECK-IN:August 4th 20:00 Tyler Ray update:HUGE day! Most good, some bad.Surgery schedules have changed numerous times! CurrentlyOrthopedic Surgery scheduled for tomorrow again, time to be determined. This is to clean out the amputation and close it.Plastic Surgery scheduled for Wednesday to repair right eye socket.Still needs a Neurosurgeon for leg nerves??The Good: Meds have been changed again so he’s more awake and conscious. He recognizes friends and family. His memory before the accident is great. He doesn’t remember anything from that night on.See video. Three amazing visitors and Tyler was up and talking! Awesome visit! Lots of laughs and a few tears. Visiting friends are great for him.The Bad:Received photos of his bike and a dash cam video of everything. I will NOT post video nor speculate about what happened . I have discussed with a few friends, but that’s it. Don’t ask, don’t post if you have it. Search enough you can find it! It’s not pretty!While visitors were here, Tyler started complaining of severe left leg pain and wanting to get up out of bed. A quick discussion with Cindy & his friends and we decided it was time and might help with them here. He now knows. He didn’t freak out, he just said “I get it”.He’s looking at a month here at least. Rest of this week in Surgical Intensive Care Unit, next week in a General Hospital Room doing some therapy & 2 weeks in the Rehab Hospital Center.He’s improving QUICKLY!!We can’t say enough about the love and support everyone is showing us!! AUGUST 4th LATE-MORNING CHECK-IN:Monday August 4th 10:00am Tyler Ray update:Group Surgical Teams Powwow! All his bloodwork numbers are great!The neck brace was on as they didn’t want to remove it until he was able to communicate enough to let them know if he had any neck pain, but after viewing the last CAT scan, they decided it could come off, so no more neck brace!Yesterday we were expecting him to have surgery today on the amputation area to clean it up and fully close it, but they rescheduled it to tomorrow, then they rescheduled it for Wednesday. We believe there are other traumas that are higher priority.After Orthopedic Surgery Wednesday, they are talking about his Facial Reconstruction on Thursday or Friday. And he still needs another Neurological Surgery yet also?!? They are talking about moving him out of ICU to a regular floor room for a week recovery. Then he will most likely transfer to a Rehab Hospital for a week to 2 weeks before finally coming home.Wow! Lots changing every time a Dr visits, and he has A LOT of Dr teams checking him!!

AUGUST 4th MORNING CHECK-IN:Monday August 4th Tyler Ray 06:30am update:He’s pretty relaxed this morning! The Oxy pain meds are way better than the Fentanyl! He’s snoring away.He woke a bit this am and told the nurse his name and home town and wanted to know where he was.He was supposed to have another surgery on his amputation site, but they’ve postponed it until tomorrow. They had some other Traumas come in yesterday so we believe those are a priority. AUGUST 3rd EVENING CHECK-IN:Sunday August 3rd 6:30pm Tyler Ray update:Tyler had a couple friends come to visit today. Maisie Bowen & Jill Feeler! It took awhile to get him to wake up, but he opened his eyes, looked at Jill, rolled his eyes, made an nuh-uh grunt and went back to sleep.Did I invite the wrong people? Absolutely hysterical moment!!So glad he heard some familiar voices and saw some good faces.Still waiting on a couple more friends to hopefully show up. AUGUST 3rd MIID-MORNING CHECK-IN:Sunday August 3rd 10:30am Tyler Ray update:Lead Surgical Intensive Care Unit Doctor and team came to check on Tyler and update us.His brain bleeds have not grown, so they believe there’s no more concern there, but they will continue to monitor them.They were very happy about his responsiveness this morning. They went over all his blood numbers and believe he is a bit dehydrated and starting to need some nutrients.They just put a feeding tube down through his nose. It went better than expected and he started talking! We clearly heard him say “disgusting”!I made them promise to blend up some chicken fried steak and potatoes.All his bloodwork numbers are showing improvement. His output is pretty good as well.They do have another surgery scheduled for tomorrow sometime to clean up his amputation and the nerves.All in all, things are showing improvement. I just wish he was more alert and with us so I know he’s ok, but I know he needs rest to recover.

AUGUST 3rd EARLY MORNING CHECK-IN:Sunday August 3 09:00 Tyler Ray update:Last night they started sedating him again because he got very restless and active, but wasn’t responding to them when asked to thumbs up or squeeze or wiggle toes. So we were a bit concerned this morning.BUT, they shifted him around and reduced his sedation and went to fix his IV and they pissed him off so he woke just long enough to try opening his eyes, he squeezed our hands when we asked and he wiggled his toes on his right foot!! He’s still in there!!We’re waiting for the head of the teams to come in and visit and see what’s next.

AUGUST 2nd STILL IN RECOVERY:Latest Tyler Ray update:They got him responsive enough to remove the ventilator tube.He has not completely woke up as of yet, but has responded to squeezing hand and giving a thumbs up when provoked enough.They are still monitoring his two small brain bleeds, but aren’t too concerned.His right eye socket is fractured and will require plastic surgery.He will be having more surgery on his amputation Monday or Tuesday to try and repair some nerves and alleviate phantom limb pain in the future.

AUGUST 2nd AFTER RECOVERY:He is back in his ICU room, but still heavily sedated.The Orthopedic Surgery portion went very well.The Optometrist Surgery went well. They had to cut a couple tendons to relieve some pressure on his eyes and allow for recovery.The Plastic Surgeons sutured his facial lacerations, so very little scarring should occur.Our concern now is from the Neurological Surgeon that found some small tears bleeding in the brain. A quick test shoving the vent tube down made him react enough that we believe he’s not paralyzed anywhere, but they will do another CAT Scan this afternoon to check on the bleeding and tears.As for our Osage Beach PD, FD, Ambulance crews and Lake Regional ER:THANK YOU FOR THE CARE OF OUR SON!

AUGUST 2nd AFTER SECOND SURGERY:Tyler Ray is out of surgery. Everything went well with the Orthopedic Surgeon. Still waiting to hear about eyes and head.He will most likely have another surgery on Monday or Tuesday to clean out any other dead tissue and do a procedure that may help nerves so he won’t suffer from ghost limb pain.We are waiting for them to get him back to his room so we can sit with him awhile .If all goes as well as expected, he may get discharged at the end of this week?!? Still has a long road to full recovery, but he’s young, fit and strong, so it shouldn’t be too bad!
