Tristin is the beating heart of his family. He is known by all for his unmatched kindness and caring, always putting others before himself. He is quirky and unique, with a passion for reptiles (especially frogs). Whether it’s trying his hand at sewing, crafting, or fishing on his beloved mini tugboat, Chugger, Tristin’s zest for life is infectious. He is the head chef for every holiday and is always looking to take in those with nowhere to go. Tristin has a quiet strength that leaves everyone around him inspired.
Five years ago, while others were adapting to life with COVID, Tristin faced a life-altering challenge when he went into heart failure. After a family trip to Hawaii, he became ill, and when he did not improve, he went to the ER. Doctors quickly discovered his heart function had plummeted to just 7%. A genetic mutation was diagnosed, foreshadowing his need for a heart transplant. Alone in the hospital during strict COVID protocols, Tristin’s strength and resilience shone through. As always, he focused on others and how they were doing with the news. After being stabilized through medication and a BiVAD, he returned home to live until a transplant became necessary.
Over the next five years, Tristin made the most of every moment and worked hard to increase his heart function, which even climbed to over 30%. His doctors even became hopeful that his need for a transplant would be delayed until much later in life. However, on September 26th, after spending a number of months feeling sick and in survival mode, Tristin’s heart failed again, and he was life-flighted to UC Health in Denver.
Upon arrival, they worked tirelessly to keep up with his deteriorating heart and keep him strong enough to receive a transplant. After days of ups and downs and sleepless nights on October 1st, he was listed for a transplant. Later that night, the call arrived. Just one day later, Tristin received a new heart.
Since then, he has faced a few complications, including his heart taking a minute to start pumping at its fullest and his kidneys deciding they needed a break for a few days. Yet, Tristin is now thriving, already showing signs of the vibrant life he can now embrace.
Even with a new heart, Tristin continues to radiate warmth, always worrying about those around him. He celebrated his release from UC Health today, October 13th, by ringing the transplant bell, a triumphant moment that seemed unimaginable just a week earlier.
The journey through the transplant process is scary, emotional, and expensive. While Medicaid covers numerous medical costs, the financial burden on his family is considerable. A fund has been established to support them as they navigate this new chapter, ensuring Tristin can continue to thrive without financial worry.
By donating, you can help alleviate the financial strain on Tristin’s family and allow them to focus on what truly matters—Tristin’s health and happiness. Your generosity can provide the support they need, and your kindness can inspire hope and healing.
Tristin was released from UC Health yesterday! He rang the bell, surrounded by his transplant team, mom, and girlfriend. This bell symbolizes triumph for the patient, recognizing their journey through the transplant process and honoring the donor and the medical team.Tristin is now waiting in Denver for another biopsy before coming home for a while ahead of his next appointment.
