Help Hope Live for Logan Reese

Logan was a beautiful, healthy 3 year old boy and on March 17th, 2025 he woke up in the middle of the night with balance and breathing issues which eventually resulted in him being paralyzed from the shoulders down over the course of just a few hours. It was caused by an extremely rare idiopathic Spinal Cord Infarction (Stroke) which affects less than 1% of all people who get strokes annually. Due to their highly uncommon nature, pediatric strokes typically result in fatalities.

He has recovered from being on a ventilator and a trachea but continues to possess minimal physical movement and feeling below his shoulders. This is a disease that will affect him for the rest of his life and the only way to improve his quality of life and hopeful movement is with continued Rehabilitation therapies which have showed promise in improvement for Logan.

Last week we traveled up to Baltimore, MD to our specialist team at John Hopkins and he underwent a 7+ hour surgery to explore the nerves in his left arm and transfer some with the hope to gain more function in his left arm and fingers. Thankfully, the surgery went as planned, zero complications with anesthesia , his respiratory abilities, or the procedure itself. They were successfully able to transfer a nerve from his forearm to the closing action of his fingers. Two other transfers were aborted - one because it simply wasn't responding/working the way they thought, but the other because it was working correctly and on it's own, just hasn't been able to get the rewiring connection yet (rotator cuff- out and upward motion)Now comes the healing, then therapy and a long waiting game - as this could take up to 12 months to see if the nerve transfer was successful. Fingers crossed, no pun intended but we are hopeful and excited to hear about the next steps. The surgeon mentioned there are other options, that aren't time sensitive, in order to get him more function in his arms. The plan is for the cast to come off in mid May and then back to Baltimore/Hopkins for specialized therapy to get a boost on recovery. Otherwise, Logan remains strong willed and continuing to show incremental improvements with some "walking motions on command" for a few steps with support with his legs which is keeping up optimistically excited for what's to come down the long road there too. This has led us to begin the process of attaining a gait trainer which would help support his upper body at home or out and about while giving his legs the ability to walk if and when we can retrain his body to do so.Look forward to the next update later in May/June for how his recovery is going so far and his next bout of Intensive therapy. Please continue to check the galleries to see photos of updates and progress. As always thank you for the support as without your help none of this would be attainable for Logan and giving him more hope in his future.

Logan completed his 2nd Kennedy Krieger Intensive outpatient therapy in Baltimore. He worked very hard every day, with a smile on his face and got to celebrate on the weekend in between with his first IMAX movie seeing Hoppers. He even got to experience a couple of quick hit snowstorms as well which was an extra bonus. We are hoping the repetitive exercises and motions continue to build some new pathways and muscle memories for him in the coming weeks and months, that we can build upon. While we are happy to be back home, Logan has taken a real liking to being there as it allows him to be upright, like taking steps, swimming in the pool and riding a bike, allowing him to feel a little bit like other kids for small periods of time. This is what these donations allow Logan to do and we are so grateful for everyone who has helped us to provide these opportunities for Logan, and give us hope for continued recovery while also giving him some real fun again. Thank you again and thank you in advance for future ones.As re-engage with his familiar "Therapy School" at NAPA which is excellent. we have some decisions to make on a possible Nerve transplant Procedure which could enable some possible hand function down the road. More to come there as we chew on that decision but will update soon. We've added a new gallery to view with some photos of this latest experience.
