Logan was a beautiful, healthy 3 year old boy and on March 17th, 2025 he woke up in the middle of the night with balance and breathing issues which eventually resulted in him being paralyzed from the shoulders down over the course of just a few hours. It was caused by an extremely rare idiopathic Spinal Cord Infarction (Stroke) which affects less than 1% of all people who get strokes annually. Due to their highly uncommon nature, pediatric strokes typically result in fatalities.
He has recovered from being on a ventilator and a trachea but continues to possess minimal physical movement and feeling below his shoulders. This is a disease that will affect him for the rest of his life and the only way to improve his quality of life and hopeful movement is with continued Rehabilitation therapies which have showed promise in improvement for Logan.
Logan is a Snowman loving joy of a child who lightens up anyone’s day when they come in to his presence. His ability to engage you with his happy smile, long eyelashes and silly personality is inspiring to so many. He strives to be able to grow up side by side with his twin brother to once again be able to run and play just like any other boy wants to.
Since the diagnosis, Logan needs full 24/7 support to take care of him due to his limited physical abilities such as eating, bathing, rolling in bed and so forth. We are hoping with continued rehabilitation he can regain the strength to attain some mobility back to provide himself some independence as he gets older as this is also a major hardship for his family both physically and mentally to take care of him.
We are fundraising for Logan to provide him dedicated intensive therapies and medical equipment due to limited coverage by insurance, which means a lot of out of pocket expenses for Logan’s family. Without the assistance continued therapy is limited and Logan’s recovery will halt. We hope his continued recovery will allow Logan to fully enjoy life again, like going to school, riding his bike, and playing soccer. It has been very difficult to see this vibrant boy’s future changed so drastically and unexpectedly, and we are hoping funds raised by Help Hope Live will help bring those dreams back for him.
If interested in helping, please donate to Help Hope Live in Logan’s honor today. We are planning fundraisers for Logan which we will be sharing updates in the future along with this online campaign page that you can donate directly to.
Logan completed his 2nd Kennedy Krieger Intensive outpatient therapy in Baltimore. He worked very hard every day, with a smile on his face and got to celebrate on the weekend in between with his first IMAX movie seeing Hoppers. He even got to experience a couple of quick hit snowstorms as well which was an extra bonus. We are hoping the repetitive exercises and motions continue to build some new pathways and muscle memories for him in the coming weeks and months, that we can build upon. While we are happy to be back home, Logan has taken a real liking to being there as it allows him to be upright, like taking steps, swimming in the pool and riding a bike, allowing him to feel a little bit like other kids for small periods of time. This is what these donations allow Logan to do and we are so grateful for everyone who has helped us to provide these opportunities for Logan, and give us hope for continued recovery while also giving him some real fun again. Thank you again and thank you in advance for future ones.As re-engage with his familiar "Therapy School" at NAPA which is excellent. we have some decisions to make on a possible Nerve transplant Procedure which could enable some possible hand function down the road. More to come there as we chew on that decision but will update soon. We've added a new gallery to view with some photos of this latest experience.
2026 got off to a rough start. Instead of an update after a 3 week intensive therapy for Logan, on January 6th, he ended up being rushed to the local hospital due to respiratory failure and then airlifted to Wake Forest Brenner Hospital at Wake Forest for 18 days where he was intubated and/or on oxygen for most of it. He ended up with severe pneumonia, a lung collapse and other infections which brought quite a scare to all of us. However, he has bounced back and we brought Logan back home on the 23rd with new breathing apparatus to combat Logan's challenge when breathing on his own We have been trained on how to properly use it as this is a new hurdle for Logan to assimilate into his lifestyle, specifically when sleeping for now but also for when he gets sick in the future. Since he's come back home he's as happy as his usual self, finally getting to play with some of his new games from Christmas, plus a couple of new ones for his IPAD. He even got to enjoy a chance to play in the snow a bit as well. Most of all he's just happy to be back home as "the 4 of us" again and we could not be more thrilled as well. Going forward, we will ease Logan back into his weekly therapies in February and then prepare for his next trip to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for the first two weeks in March. We are disappointed about Logan missing this most recent intensive therapy, as these benefit him greatly, but we are just thankful we are able to get him ready for the next one. As always we are so appreciative of everyone's support and all donations here go to Logan's medical support and future therapies. We've been so lucky already and appreciate the continued love and prayers.
Hello everyone. We just wanted to thank everyone who has donated to Logan this year. It is an incredible feeling to see the amount of support from both familiar and unfamiliar names. and we are truly quite humbled. Logan has continued incremental improvement with various parts of his body. His core and upper legs show the strongest improvement so far as he is able to hold his weight a bit longer with less assistance needed than earlier this year. He is starting to voluntarily initiate movement in his legs which is a new development. A big goal for Logan in 2026 will be to get him strong enough to be able to use a gait trainer that will help maintain his body weight while giving him the ability to slowly pull his legs forward to walk. It is a challenging goal but he is motivated to get on his feet and his recent perseverance in his therapies shows that. We are hoping after a couple of "intensive therapies" both in Charlotte and at Hopkins again in Baltimore (both have shown to provide the biggest positive impact for him) in the first few months of this upcoming year, he will improve enough for us to try to get him this device.Without the major support of everyone here, these intensive therapies and new medical equipment we are pursuing next year would not be attainable and we are so grateful. We are also in the planning stages with our Help Hope Live teammates with some ideas later this year that we will keep everyone updated on as more details arise. Please also continue to follow Logan (friend request him) on Facebook at Logan's League SCI to continue to see his recovery journey. We hope everyone has had a great holiday so far and has a healthy and Happy New Year. With love, the Reese Family.
We just returned back with Logan from an incredible experience at a 2 week intensive therapy in Baltimore at Kennedy Krieger. He received therapy using innovative technology getting him up on his feet albeit not on his own but was so great to see him upright again especially with that big smile on his face. They had him on a treadmill, in a pool, an eliptical and a bike while of course singing along to Danny Go.First, he loved going to “school therapy” ( he was all smiles) where we were taught new exercises to do at home and new medical equipment to improve his mobility and strength. We truly won’t see the improvements from these therapies for awhile as his spinal cord and muscles/nerves take a long time to hopefully rewire themselves internally. Secondly, with a shock to us Logan’s diagnosis changed from Transverse Myelitis to a Spinal Cord Stroke after new tests and assessments. This correlates with the speed of his symptoms taking over his body upon paraylsis and his limited improvements thus far. However, this may bode well for his future outlook as the time frame for recovery does not have a clock like TM has. Recovery just takes longer and is a lot slower due to the injury from a stroke but we have hope. All in all this medical rehab trip was more than we had wished for and can’t wait to go back in 6 months.
