Family and friends of Jacob Washburn are raising money for the nonprofit Help Hope Live to fund uninsured medical expenses associated with a Transplant.
Jacob has chosen to fundraise with Help Hope Live because it allows loved ones to give in a way that is safe, meaningful, and tax deductible – and every dollar raised goes directly toward medical and related costs that are essential to his care and recovery.
Help Jacob Breathe Again
Jacob, 39, is a husband and father who recently found out he is in rejection and is in need of new lungs. After nine years of easy breathing and good health, his transplanted lungs are under attack and have compromised his ability to live life.
Jacob was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at a very young age, after his older brother Joshua also had CF. Cystic Fibrosis is a chronic, inherited genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. There is no cure for CF, but treatments have come a long ways to improve health and increase the quality and quantity of life for those who are affected. Lung transplantation is seen as a worst case scenario but has been able to prolong life and give recipients a better quality of life.
Jacob’s passion in life is being the best husband and father he can be. However, his health is limiting his ability to do just that. Jacob also gets extreme happiness in watching his younger brother play baseball for the United States Air Force. This transplant would afford him the quality of life to travel and cheer on his brother as planned before this rejection started. His family is his life.
Jacob, his wife Julie, and daughter Hattie will be relocating to Arizona to be closer to his transplant team. With this being his third transplant, there are not a lot of hospitals willing and able to do the surgery. Thankfully, a hospital has agreed to start the process to allow Jacob to get this life-saving surgery.
Jacob is fundraising for medical expenses related to his lung transplant, and relocation costs to Arizona from Texas. His stay in Arizona will last at least a year and could last longer, depending on his health needs and doctor recommendations. The cost of a transplant can take its toll on a family, especially with Jacob not being able to work. Jacob and his support team are setting a goal of $100,000.
After transplant, Jacob is looking forward to returning back to his job as a Realtor. Hattie will be ready to attend school and Jacob is looking forward to dropping her off for her first day. He is also hoping to coach her in t-ball and be the best dance dad he can be. Julie is ready for Jacob to cut the grass again and get back to his chores!!
Please donate to Help Hope Live in Jacob’s honor today, and ask your family and friends to give too. Thank you for your generous support in helping Jacob Breathe Again.
It’s 9:54pm or 21:54 here in Arizona and I thought I would give you guys an update! We finished week one of testing and things are going very smooth. Lots of appointments and jack in the box burritos. This week is more testing and meeting with transplant doctors, surgeons and key people who make this process happen. Pray for them as they discuss and review all of my testing. We knew we had a lot of love and support but seeing your posts in the guestbook has meant so much. We are in awe of your generous donations.I want to thank our Air Force family for your kindness, love and support. I’ve shed tears and been speechless over the support you guys have shown. Thank you! FFWK! Never Ever Quit! Our support group continues to show up and show out. To friends and family: Thank you. Our family has grown to include Air Force members, past and present. We couldn’t do it without all of you. The daily calls, texts and messages have kept my spirits high.My hope is to have an update next week regarding the hospitals decision. Until then, I’d love your prayers, good vibes, juju, and all things positive!Never Ever Quit!!Jake
